Here we have a pair of vintage mordaunt short MS 3.40 (8ohm) speakers. I bought these new back in the early 90s and are still in pretty much immaculate condition and full working order with very little use over the years. They come complete with the original elastic covers. The size is approximately 22.5 high by 9.25 wide by 10.75 deep in inches. These are for collection only from Brownhills Walsall due to size, sold as seen with no returns. Any questions please ask.

These speakers are in time warp condition. Matching serial numbers. Sound truely amazing (previously used with a Beocenter 7002 available on a seperate listing) Vintage Mordaunt-Short MS 400 floor-standing speakers .The speakers were launched in 1969, produce very detailed and transparent sound, with good bass even in low volume. They have large elliptical midbass unit, one tweeter and one super tweeter each. Have attractive high quality real wood finish. They are a 3 way design featuring a bass driver unit, a mid/tweeter and a super tweeter. They are rated at 30 watts RMS at 8 Ohms The bass driver was made in England by EMI. Its a 13 X 8 elliptical unit that i believe was called an EMI 700 and I understand was custom made for this particular model.The cone is a triple laminate paper with an aluminium centre section and a distinctive pepper pot dust cover all painted in a natural alcohol based black paint. The cone is suspended by a vinyl surround. The chassis is a steel pressing fitted with a large magnet assembly for its day. The chassis is painted in a grey hammer type paint. These were also very similar to the drive units fitted into the well regarded B&W DM3 from the late 60s and early 70s. The mid/tweeter unit is i believe a KEF T15 1 1/2 black soft dome unit. These were well regarded and used by many manufacturers in the 1970s The crossover frequency is 2.25 kHz. The super tweeter is a Coles 4001G unit. Again these were popular in there day. The crossover frequency is around 8 or 9 kHz All the drivers are working perfectly and looks like new.The crossover units were made by Mordaunt Short for this driver combination using strip prototype board which adds a certain uniqueness to the speakers design. The sound these speakers produce is very different to that of modern speaker designs. The way they present detail in the sound, particularly the mids is amazing. They are best suited to vocals, jazz, live band recordings and rock music Although they are large floor-standing speakers, they dont require a large room. Closed type enclosures without bass reflex allow to position the speakers close to the wall, without losing the bass and the depth of the sound stage. Collection only from Worcester
