I have been setting up turntables for 50 years and have sold countless examples. Linn has been my focus for the last 20 years. This particular example has been in my private collection in various forms and levels. I evaluated the deck with Naim NAC 72, NAP 110, and JBL L100 Century speakers. I have set up many of these and the results vary, my goal is to provide an exceptional working and sounding example. Results can be good, great, or better. This table with the sum of these parts and set up is a stunner. I have been playing my reference LPs there is a certain warm and intriguing sound that is not often achieved. A good word would be juicy, the music just flows. I can’t say that about every one I have set up. I put the same attention to detail and build philosophy on all of these decks. You will rediscover your LP collection. This table will encourage you to play LP after LP. I have just re-built it with the following components:Original Afromosia fluted plinth. A few years back I went to repaint the bottom black trim on this plinth and started removing it. This looked so fresh and clean without the black I left it this way. Clean thrust pad, no leaks Later circa 1984 sub chassis with epoxy glued strengthening bar Original top plate Basik power supply board, PCB version with new capacitors neon power switch excellent operates perfectly Later Premotec good clean motor 60 Hz pulley with sealed bottom cap Current specification arm board for Rega Current Torx head arm board screws Current springs and grommets Current 3 prong grounded AC power cord Good bottom cover Good Linn belt New Linn rear label New current Linn feet Linn top plate bolt to sub chassis ground wire All new M5 nylon lock nuts with current Mudguard washers Good Linn felt mat SERVICE PERFORMED:Bearing cleaned and checked in exceptional condition (USE MINERAL OIL ONLY - DO NOT USE LINN BLACK OIL IN THIS BEARING) Suspension leveled and adjusted Basik power supply rebuilt Good used later Premotec motor with sealed bottom cap REGA/MOTH OEM RB 220 tonearm installed on current spec arm board. I purchased this arm new a few years ago it has seen very little use and could pass for new Allen head through bolts used with nuts (not self-tapping wood screws) for added structural integrity Shure V15 Type III phono cartridge with very low hour Jico SAS stylus with Boron cantilever installed. I purchased this stylus new from Jico in Japan December 2023, it may have 100 hours on it. I can tell you these are amazing performers, this V15 is in absolutely exceptional condition. Sound compares to cartridges that I have had here at many times the cost. Cartridge aligned and correct overhang set Speed set by motor tilt and checked with KAB strobe disc and Quartz LED. I was able to set this to with basically no revolution/movement of the 33 icon on the disc. This represents better than .03% drift which is 10 times better than NAB standard I have installed and used numerous Valhalla and Hercules power supplies over the years, IME they all eventually fail causing the user to remove, replace, recap, etc. taking the table down until it can be repaired, and it starts the process again. I can say wholeheartedly about the Basik version you will not have this situation, once installed and speed set correctly with Quartz LED by motor tilt it will be excellent indefinitely. When I hold the AC synchronous motor in my hand powered by Basik the vibration is minimal not much different then the electronic versions. Technically it is more susceptible to AC quality coming from the wall but I have never experienced any detrimental operation from a Basik, I cannot say that about the others. You will have no worries with this and the sound from this table with the early bearing is wonderful. I do not have the exact serial number on this deck as the original rear label was missing. I can verify that the plinth has Aug 6 1979 stamped inside which would be at least serial number 27xxx. Cosmetic condition is excellent with minor signs of use. This is physically clean with no dirt or nicotine contamination. Outer platter has usual patina for age, top plate has some swirls and light scratches nothing terrible, plinth is excellent no cracks or broken pieces and structurally good. I have seen so many top plates and cross braces deformed from over tightening on LP12 tables. These are both good examples with no notable bends or depressions from the bolt heads. I personally do not want to deform any of the materials and always cautious about this. I did work on getting the top plate flush and evenly mounted to the plinth it looks exceptional. The dust cover is from another deck, it shows more use has marks and scratches. It is completely intact with no cracks or broken pieces, the hinges are good newer ones and operate perfectly. Should there be any damage in transit by the buyers shipper, the buyer will have to handle all aspects of their own damage claim for the purchased item/items. Once the buyers shipper arrives for pick up of item/items I will have your shipper fully inspect the item/items to ensure it is in the exact condition as stated in the ad and have the shipper sign and date a letter stating as such. If the buyers shipper notices any issues, flaws or discrepancies that are not notated in the ad, I will have the shipper notate in the letter also including photos to show those discrepancies. Product Description: The plinth is stunning superior quality fluted plinth constructed from carefully selected, kiln-dried Oak which has a beautiful natural finish. It is corner braced, perfectly level, and in new condition. The top-plate is an original Linn one which has been carefully cleaned and reinstalled using brand-new washers and nyloc nuts. The sub-chassis is a genuine Linn bonded model which has been thoroughly checked to ensure no warping, carefully cleaned, and re-fit to the plinth also using brand-new hardware. It has the superior Linn Cirkus bearing which has been carefully cleaned and was found to be in excellent condition. It comes with the matching Linn inner platter and a beautifully cleaned Linn outer platter. In addition, a genuine and brand-new Linn felt mat is included. The tonearm is a genuine Linn Ekos (Mark I) which easily passes the swing and bob tests confirming the horizontal and vertical bearings are in excellent shape while the head-shell presents in fine condition. The tonearm cable is also an original and as-new Linn T-Cable while the tonearm board is a brand-new Linn model of their latest design. As for the mechanics, the springs and grommets are genuine Linn and brand-new while the motor is a brand-new Linn Premotec model which will provide years of trouble-free service. The mudguard washers and aerotight lock nuts have been replaced with brand-new and the ground wire (earth cable) is also a brand-new Linn one. I have supplied a brand-new Linn belt and a vial of spare Linn oil is also provided for the bearing. The power supply is an original Linn Valhalla that has been thoroughly tested, completely cleaned and serviced with new capacitors, a higher-rated Bridge rectifier, and a Surge Guard varistor. A brand-new, fast-blow ceramic fuse has also installed. It supports 110v or 240v operation and will be set to 110v operation to function in North America unless 240v is requested. I have included a brand-new superior quality 18-gauge, 5-foot power (mains) cable with a North American 3-prong plug which can be swapped for a UK 3-prong plug if desired. The lid (dustcover) is genuine and brand-new as supplied by Linn and comes complete with brand-new Linn hinges. The base is a genuine Linn Trampoline II baseboard for superior vibration isolation. Comes complete with a free, bonus suspension adjustment tool if any tweaks are needed in the years to come.
