These beautiful vintage KEF Reference Series 102 speakers are from the original owner. They spent their entire life on a bookshelf in a climate controlled home. They are in excellent cosmetic condition and work perfectly. Please look carefully at all pictures and judge the condition for yourself. These speakers were taken to Freeman Tuell Speaker Services (best speaker repair shop in DFW area) and were checked. The crossovers, woofers and butyl surrounds on the woofers were all in great condition. The T33 ferrofluid tweeters needed to be serviced and both tweeters had NEW FERROFLUID INSTALLED. Everything now sounds as they did when they were new. This matched pair of speaker (A/B pair) are in the rare and more expensive ROSEWOOD finish. KEF Kube 102 -Designed To Optimize KEF Reference 102 Speakers I bought a couple of these when I was working for a KEF Dealer back in the 90s They belonged to the Floor Model KEF Reference 102 speakers we had on hand to Demo but were mistakenly separated from the speakers before they were sold That was unfortunate because the Kube 102 is designed as part of the Reference 102Speaker System. Without the Kube, the speakers will not sound as they were intended When I got the Kubes, they were boxed up and stored in a cabinet and were never used in all this time. When I rediscovered them, they looked like new and they have the original power supplies (see pics) I tested them and they performed perfectly. No pops on the switches, no noise on the contour knob. Good Listening, SonnY :) The bass performance of the system is obtained by using a separate active (electronic) equalizer, the KUBE (KEF Universal Bass Equalizer), that boosts the bass drive signal by 5 to 6 dB below about 40 Hz while reducing the midrange drive signal in the 2,000-Hz region by about 5 dB. The KUBE Model 2088 supplied with the KEF 102 speakers is meant to be inserted in an amplifier or receiver tape-monitor loop or between a preamplifier and power amplifier. It has a set of tape input and output jacks and a monitor switch to replace those required for its connection to the amplifier. Pushing in the extend button of the KUBE inserts an additional bass boost that complements the speaker’s natural rolloff in the bass region and gives it a nearly flat response to 40 Hz. Another control, marked contour, shifts the level of the entire bass range (below about 200 Hz) up or down as much as 3 dB to balance the low-frequency sound against the midrange level. The contour circuit operates independently of the extend control.

Pair of KEF Model 102 Reference Series speakers with KEF Kube 102. Circa late 1980s. The Kube is a bass frequency extender and is needed for best sound. Important: your amp or receiver must have a Tape2/Monitor button or send-return (effects loop) capability to utilize the Kube. Two-way system with 6 and 1.25 drivers. The drivers are all original and perform well. I replaced the ferrofluid in both tweeters in 2022 after noticing reduced high frequencies. The high frequency response is restored. Very good cosmetic condition. There is a ding and scratch in the finish of one speaker (see photos).Deep reddish brown cherry finish.One of the grill cloths mounting pegs is slightly pushed in, which pushes the grill cloth outward in one corner, but it has not punctured the cloth. Power cords for the Kube are included. RCA cables for Kube/receiver connection and speaker wires for receiver/speaker connection are NOT included. Dimensions of one speaker: 8 3/16 wide x 13 tall x 10 3/8 deep with grill cloth on. There are some imperfections which can be seen in the pictures. One of the grills has a couple of small blemishes. The are a beautiful dark wood color. Not sure if the exact color. These are audiophile speakers and pretty heavy for their size. They will be packaged well. There are no returns.

The two have virtually identical sensitivities and, at least in our room, sound so much alike that in most cases only spatial clues enabled us to distinguish between them when switching back and forth.
