My Graaf GM20 OTL power amplifier. If youre looking at this you probably know all about these.... I bought this a couple of years ago and have used it regularly, with the ultimate plan of restoring and upgrading it. It sounds like no other amplifier Ive ever owned.... It is almost scary in the detail (and incredible bass response) it produces. Its only 20 watts per channel, but it produces a sound that completely belies this! It had been (pretty clumsily) modified when I bought it. It has two large led meters attached which show the bias (very useful, but a bit ugly), and the bias and offset pots have been moved, with their shafts protruding from the sides of the chassis (again this is useful, but a bit ugly!). It also had a number of fans added under the chassis and in the upper cage, which I removed as the noise was so irritating! The main issue is that the original bespoke valve holders (and the pcb) have suffered badly from the heat of the 6C33C output valves. I purchased a set of ceramic (Russian NOS) valveholders with the intention of upgrading the pcb using copper bars (as in later versions of the GM20) and installing the new valveholders on stand-offs as a permanent fix. It works and sounds great as it is, but the original valveholders are a constant problem due to them being charred. The intermittent contacts need constant attention. I love this thing..... It sounds utterly amazing when everything is just right, but Ive never got round to doing the work it needs to make it completely reliable. A good strip-down and some careful rebuilding would make it 100%. I just dont have the time now. Im including the valveholders and also three new spare PSU capacitors I bought along the way. Believe me, even in its current state it sounds fabulous and with some care and attention it will be even better, and more stable! Im happy to demo if you wish. Why am I selling this? Im getting too old and lazy is the real reason, but every time I listen to it I want to keep it! It is monumentally heavy, so collection is preferred.
