The unit works but requires new phono sockets on the back of the MM connection, I found that the loud humming was due to my electrical sockets upstairs, which are on a different circuit, there is still a low hum, but this could be due to several reasons , bad interconnects and my neighbour I am sure has something plugged in to stop me enjoying the music, I am sure it is easily fixed or may not even be there as it comes and goes. the sound quality is superb, even though its a bit industrial looking, the mono switch also help a lot especially when playing mono records, the mute switch is also very useful. The SA 3000 is now getting scarce and becoming a collectors item, due to its superb sound quality, they now sell for between £1100 to £1300 and either from Europe or USA which means shipping and taxes, this represents good value, as I have discounted it for the work required to fix it, as well as the included rare and highly expensive valves.
