The YMC-500 controls other components using its virtual (on-screen) remote and the included IR flashers connected to the remote control outputs on the rear panel. Video Conversion: Because the only video output on the YMC-500 is HDMI, the composite and component video inputs are converted to HDMI for transfer to the TV. Your TV must have an HDMI input to be compatible with this unit. Note: This unit does not have S-Video inputs or outputs. Remote Control: The receiver comes with a basic, but versatile wireless remote control. The receiver has codes built-in to control multiple brands of TVs, Blu-ray and DVD players, DVRs, cable and satellite receivers, CD players, etc. If not built-in, remote codes can also be learned from another remote. The remote has relatively few buttons, but can engage a virtual remote on-screen to expand its control over the receiver and the other components. Commands are chosen using the cursor and enter buttons on the remote and transferred to other components via the included IR flashers. GUI: The YMC-500 features a new GUI (Graphic User Interface) with easy to use on-screen display icons. The GUI is activity based; you first select Watch, Listen, or Play (what sources are associated with each is programmable); then choose a source. The Automatic Operation Flow function then turns on the selected source and changes the receiver to that input. YPAO Technology: This unit employs the YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Acoustic Optimizer), which automatically adjusts the output of the speakers based on placement, performance, and the rooms acoustic characteristics. Using the supplied Optimizer Microphone, YPAO performs the following checks and makes appropriate adjustments to give you the best possible sound from your system. iPod Universal Dock: With the optional YDS-11 iPod Universal Dock (item number 022YDS11), you can connect your iPod digital music player to the YMC-500 and control audio and video playback using the remote control. Most fourth generation and later iPods (Click Wheel) are compatible. Video from your iPod and album art can be displayed on the connected TV monitor. Bluetooth: An optional YBA-10 Bluetooth adapter (item number 022YBA10) can be connected to the dock port on the YMC-500 to allow you to stream audio wirelessly from your compatible Bluetooth device. Note: Either the iPod dock or Bluetooth dock can be connected to the receiver, not both. USB: The receiver is equipped with a USB port on the rear panel for use with a USB flash memory drive. Supported file types include WAV (PCM format only), MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 AAC, and FLAC. Compressed Music Enhancer: Compressed formats such as MP3, WMA, and AAC generally remove high and low frequency harmonic information, resulting in a loss of fidelity. The Compressed Music Enhancer regenerates the missing harmonics in compression artifacts and compensates for the loss of low- and high-frequencies to provide improved performance. Surround Modes: The YMC-500 offers the following Surround modes: Decoding Formats:Dolby TrueHDDolby Digital PlusDolby DigitalDTS Digital SurroundDTS 96/24 Air Surround Xtreme: This virtual surround technology simulates playback of a multi-channel signal using two speakers and a subwoofer.DSP Modes:Movie: when not using Dolby TrueHD or Dolby Digital PlusEntertainment: used with TV and video gamesLive Music: used with live music contentMusic Enhancer: enhances playback of compressed music filesAll Channel stereo: outputs a stereo signal from all connected speakers Speaker Setup: This feature allows you to manually adjust the following speaker settings: Bass Out: select the speakers that will output the LFE (low-frequency effect) channel and the other low-frequency signalsSpeaker Sizes: select from the following speaker sizes for each speaker in your system:Front: Large or SmallCenter: Large, Small, or NoneSurround: Large, Small, or None Crossover: select the crossover frequency for all the speakers set to Small; choose between 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 160, and 200HzSubwoofer Phase: switch the phase of your subwoofer between Normal and ReverseSpeaker Level: adjust the output level of each channel independently Dynamic Range: The amount of dynamic range compression applied to bitstream signals is adjustable; Min/Auto is suitable for low volume listening, Standard is typical for home use, and Max doesnt compress the dynamic range at all. Adaptive DRC (Dynamic Range Control): During low-volume listening, such as late as night, dynamic range suffers and some sounds are missed. The effect of Adaptive DRC varies with volume, at lower volume the dynamic range is narrowed. Lip Sync: The YMC-500s HDMI version 1.3a supports automatic lip sync, to synchronize the system audio and video. If your TV isnt compatible with auto lip sync, the audio delay can be set manually from 0 to 240 ms in 1 ms increments. HDMI Through: When the YMC-500 is in standby mode (power off), the HDMI Through feature allows an HDMI source signal to pass through the receiver to the TV. Power Specifications Note: No power output specifications are available on the neoHD receivers. Input and Output Notes HDMI Inputs/Output: There are three 1.3a HDMI inputs and one output on the rear panel. These HDMI jacks can be used for 2-channel and multi-channel linear PCM (up to 8-channel) and Bitstream (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc) digital audio formats as well as digital video signals up to 1080p resolution (including 1080/24p). They also support Deep Color (30 bit and 36 bit), x.v.Color, and auto Lip-Sync compensation. A/V Inputs: The YMC-500 has one composite video and two component video inputs, along with one coaxial digital, one optical digital, and one analog stereo RCA audio input. During the initial input setup, each of the video inputs can be paired with any free audio inputs (once a combination is selected, neither that audio nor that video connection is available in the menu for the next device setting). Speaker Terminals: The receiver has spring clip speaker terminals for the front, center, and surround channels. The spring clips can accept pin connectors and bare wire up to 14 gauge. Remote Jacks: The receiver has one remote input and three remote output mini-jack terminals for use with the included IR flashers, external IR receivers, and other compatible Yamaha components.
