Wharfedale Super 12 / RS / DD full frequency range speaker circa 1966. A Super 12 / RS / DD is a twelve inch FULL RANGE speaker. You can see the dual cones that share the low and high full frequency range That is a big magnet and the basket is made of well braced cast metal. They don't make them like this anymore. Ideal for a mono system. For example, a cabinet measuring 36.5 x 23 x 14.5 (5 cu. ft.), will follow the specs that Gilbert Briggs , of Wharfedale, recommended in an August 1962 catalogue brochure. You could also go baffleless. No crossover needed here. The surround on these models do not degrade like foam surrounds on cheaper speakers, and this one is in original condition and works as it should. Here is a breakdown of the meaning of the model name. Super = a more powerful Alcomax III magnet. 12 is the diameter. RS = roll surround . It is a rubber impregnated cloth material. DD = double diaphram. A twin cone. That is what makes it a full frequency range speaker. You can see the high frequency cone in the centre of the main cone. Commonly called a wizzer cone. So in one unit, you have a large low frequency woofer cone, and a smaller upper frequency cone in one. Date of manufacture is December 1966 and can be seen in the picture This speaker was built into a cabinet in the early 70’s (as seen in one of the pictures) and has only just been removed.
