Exogal Comet Plus DAC - Silver This Exogal Comet Plus includes the upgraded power supply, a $500 option. Original retail was $3000+ The Exogal was designed by one of the ex Wadia designers, considered some of the original pioneers of high quality digital playback. ComparisonsI have compared this DAC personally with the Denafrips Terminator, and the Holo Audio May DAC. I find its closer to the sound of the Holo Audio May DAC - more like flowing water, clean, pure, wide. The three DACs Id consider on the same level but different flavors. I think a good summary of the sound of the Comet Plus is Organic and technical - nice wide, natural stage, neutral. Easy to live with. Custom FirmwareI am the second owner. When I received the DAC, I realized the iOS/Android app was no longer compatible, so I ordered the Plus powersupply and the included remote directly from Exogal. Upon receiving the unit, I also played with the Preamp and headphone amp. Ill be direct and honest - I have better headphone amps and preamps. The DAC here is the star of this show. If youre interested in this, you probably already know that. I asked Exogal to disable the volume control, as I had a pre-amp and integrated amp I wanted to use, and every time it was power cycled required raising the initial volume from 0 to 100% (taking several dozen button pushes). Exogal flashed a custom firmware onto my DAC - as far as I know, the only one in existence - that starts the volume at 100. Upon power-up, all you need to do is unmute the DAC to get full volume. Ill also provide the original firmware files and flashing instructions if you want to go back (but why would you?), keep in mind that it will require ordering a serial cable adapter from Amazon and a bit of technical know-how. I wont be able to give you tech support beyond providing the instructions, sorry. ConditionAs-is condition, see pictures - but a few very light scratches in the acrylic on the top and bottom, and a small ding on the front top corners. You wont be able to see this from a few feet away and it sounds great!

Minor blemishes to the brushed aluminum surface on the top that are barely distinguishable (actual photos). Wadia 27ix Digital Decoding Computer: The 27ix is the third-generation version of the original Wadia 27, which was reviewed by Robert Harley in the October 1996 Stereophile (Vol.19 No.10). I refer readers to that review for a full description of the processors technology and functionality. Briefly, the circuitry is housed in a black-anodized chassis, its panels machined from solid aluminum. There are no controls on the sculpted front panel, just a blue fluorescent display and the Wadia logo. All functions are operated from the chunky metal remote control, which also operates the 270 transport. The display defaults to showing left and right volume, but also momentarily shows emphasis and polarity, as well as sample rate, selected input, and whether that input is clock-linked or not. The rear panel offers six data inputs, and both balanced and single-ended analog outputs. The 27ix has the same digital volume control as the 850 and 860 players.
