A reading of 44/44 is the minimum recommended. They feature gray plates, halo getters and a third mica layer for enhanced quieting. They also carry an IBM part number 3000528. These will be shipped with pin protectors. The 6414 is a high reliability medium-mu twin triode with 9-pin miniature basing. The 6414 is used as original equipment in the first generation of David Manley VTL Amps. VTL recommends this tube type over all others in the driver / output of their White Follower circuit. This is the preamp that was the original Giant killer with both a great line stage and an amazing phono stage. One owner! in great cosmetic and functional shape (see photos) With the exception of the face plate color fading. I had the unit completely recapped and upgraded by Avatar Engineering in Jan. 2024,a $500 service. The upgrades consisted of all new audiophile electrolytic capacitors throughout the preamp. The power supply capacitance was increased by 40% with higher grade, higher voltage capacitors along with 8 new ultra fast soft recovery rectifiers. The phono stage was upgraded also with Jesse oil film capacitors.The tubes were also replaced (LESS THAN 20HRS. OF USE) NOS AREO GOLD 7025 AND 12AT7, Audiophile tubes. Also included are Mundorf Polypropelene capacitors. The volume control has been replaced with a new audio grade Alps unit! Here we have a very clean VTL Deluxe Tube Preamp. Just pulled this , tested all the tubes( test at NOS on my calibrated B& K 747) and listened to it for a couple hours. Sound is very neutral and open. All functions work. Cosmetics 9/10. Very clean. All controls smooth and quiet. Come in it’s original packaging. With an interesting book on VTL. Seen better days but is still legible. Comes with a generic power cord. Shipping with the tubes installed as they are really snug. Will be double boxed.

Rare Vintage VTL Deluxe tube preamplifier in fantastic working and cosmetic condition. I am selling this for a friend whose husband passed away. This was part of a system from their vacation home, so it didnt get used very much. Before putting it up for sale, I had my local tech go through it and he found that all of the tubes were in specification and it was working flawlessly. He was amazed at the condition of the preamp.
