This was designed by Nelson Pass of Pass Labs and built by Ted Bennett of Threshold in Los Angeles CA. The amp was recapped two years ago and is working perfectly. My Uncle was the original owner and he had a pair of these running mono to a set of Klipschhorns for about 30 years. Up for auction today is a N.E.W. 20 watt x2 class A amp. This amp is extremely rare and sounds amazing. This was designed by Nelson Pass of Pass Labs and built by Ted Bennett of Threshold in Los Angeles CA. The amp was recapped two years ago and is working perfectly. My Uncle was the original owner and he had a pair of these running mono to a set of Klipschhorns for about 30 years. My Uncle is getting to old and doesnt hears as good as he used to so he asked if I could sell some of his system. He will not let go of the other amp. He paid $5000 for the pair of amps back in 2000. This is an amazing peace of audio history, design, and listening pleasure. You will never see another one of these amps up for sale again so get it while you can. You are looking at one of the best phono preamplifiers ever designed! Probably the best effort by the genius Nelson Pass. It replaced my Audio Research SP10, which at the time was and still is considered as having one of the best phono sections available at any price! The preamp was recently completely reconditioned by Avatar Engineering to above the performance of the unit when it was brand new. The power supply ( Which is the E version, the much better unit per Nelson Pass, with 10 times the capacitance) has also been upgraded with new higher capacity audio grade capacitors bypassed with polypropelene film caps, the diodes were replaced with ultra fast soft recovery rectifiers with a Kiwame resistor and improved wiring. As to the line stage there too the electrolytic capacitors were replaced with superior Panasonic FM caps. All inferior tantalum capacitors were replaced with polypropylene film caps, and most important the original mylar capacitors were replaced with audio grade polypropylene and polystyrene units! Some of the other upgrades include the addition of Takman, PRP and Vishay Dale ultra precision S102 .05% audiophile resistors. This phono preamp is truly a reference level component that is in Pristine condition. You will not be disappointed with this GEM. I am offering a 30 day warranty on the Threshold at asking price.
