THIEL SW1 (SS2) CHERRY SUBWOOFER - PARTS/REPAIR - LOCAL ONLY Please read description and ask any questions before hitting buy it now. All pictures are recent and from the items currently for sale. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY Moving in the next few months and trying to clear out some of the bigger items Ive accumulated over the years. Bought this off eBay around 5-6 years ago when I already had a couple too many high end subs only because I have an SS1 (smallest, single driver) that I still use (and love) in my medium sized living room. The SS1 was one of the first subs in a relatively small form factor that emphasized deep, clean bass rather that big output. Always had been curious to try one of the larger Thiels. Bought from a seller with good feedback and listing included that it had been repaired in the past, had some surface cosmetic issues and was missing a few screws ... but functioned with no issue. Seller had obviously never had to ship something like this and was obvious put a fair amount of effort into what was a completely inadequate packing job. Sub had obviously been dropped at some point in transit causing some of the cabinet damage you see (its still mechanically solid) but, more importantly, had damaged something in the amp. Plugged it into one of my systems and it initially did produce sound but with a prominent buzz/hum. Within several minutes a fuse blew and immediately blew the next fuse I tried. Contacted Rob Gillum at Coherent Source Service about a possible repair. He said I could send it in and theyd take a look but, unfortunately, the company the built/designed the amp was out of business and they had no schematics so couldnt guarantee a fix. Had still planned to send it in but work/life happened and its been sitting since. If you read the reviews on these the drivers were generally noted as being the special pieces in these. While Thiel didnt make the actual drivers for the speakers and subs they were all custom and built per Thiel specs. Now that you can get receivers and processors that can EQ subs with some detail I had considered just getting a quality aftermarket amp that might fit but, once again, just never got around to it. NOTES: Drivers: As you can see in the pics the two drivers are slightly different but have no model numbers on them. One has a set of connections on either side and other does not. Normally two sets would make you think dual voice coil but would be a little weird to do that on just one driver. So may be just how theyre wired to each other. Regardless, on the one with two one side gives 2 ohms and the other no reading. The other driver gives 2 ohms on its only set of connectors. Small gold bolts: Knowing that the sub was missing screws I ordered some from Thiel in advance of being delivers so there are more than enough of those for the amp plate and drivers. Large gold bolts: These hold the, purely cosmetic, thick front panel in place. Ive only been able to track down 5 of the 6 but still looking. Passenger top cover: Same as the bottom, very nice. Cabinet: Despite the impact damage it is stull 100% mechanically sound and a bit of a beast. Could clean up to look much better but getting it to 100% would take someone with skills I do not possess. Amp: I did look it over very closely at the time hoping there might be some simple issue but could find nothing obvious. Grill: Is pictured/included but believe it requires glue to hold it in place properly. Please feel free to ask questions but I will not ship. Will not break the items and ship/sell separately. Sorry but I just dont have the time. PICKUP While I am busy I work from home and pretty flexible on time and day if given at least 24 hours notice to check for conflicts. Thiel MCS-1 Center speaker in natural cherry finish. I think the natural cherry is the prettiest finish that Thiel ever produced,and is extremely hard to find! I have sold my Thiel Floor speakers, and this was their matching center speaker. Two of the bottom. corners have little dings. (Please see the pictures)Very light crease in the small driver. (see picture) A couple very light / small surface scratches that do not go through the veneer.The grill cover has the material worn off the corners. I never used it!Sounds great, and am not aware of any issues with it. No original box.However, it is packed up and ready to go! Do to the new Tax laws coming into effect, I would like to be paid with either cash, or Paypal Friends and Family.Thanks for looking!
