Zur Thats EM-X: Und hier die Eingangsfrage: Warum ist dies eine der spannendsten Kassetten auf dem Markt - und damit heute so teuer? Nun: Die EM-X weist die höchste Empfindlichkeit aller Kassetten in der Typ-II-Klasse auf. stereoplay vermutete in Heft 4/85, dass dieses Band vermutlich (heimlich) Metall-beschichtet sei, sonst könnten diese Eigenschaften nicht erreicht werden. Zum Vergleich: Die Empfindlichkeit gegenüber dem IEC-Band einer TDK SA liegt bei +0,9 dB, die SA-X bei +1,7 dB - und die EM-X bei +2,7 dB und dies ohne Höhenabfall. Maxells XL II-S lag zwar bei +2,6 dB, aber deren Höhen rauschten systembedingt runter wie beim Rheinfall.Tatsächlich kam dann raus, dass Thats einen Weg gefunden hatte, mit einem erstaunlich einfachen Verfahren aus Schrott ! mikroskopisch kleine Reineisenpartikel herzustellen - sogenanntes Goethit. Durch diese viel geringere Partikelgröße als für normales Metallband üblich arbeitet die EM-X als tatsächliches Metall-Reineisenband nun im Chrombereich (Typ II anstatt Typ IV) - mit oben genannten Eigenschaften.Die EM-X war natürlich fast nur Experten in der Szene bekannt - hohe Verkaufszahlen erreichte sie gegenüber den Markführern TDK, Maxell und BASF nicht. Darüber hinaus war sie die am Markt teuerste Typ-II-Kassette - vermutlich aber die günstigste Metall-Kassette, die wegen des einfachen Goethit-Verfahrens auch günstig angeboten werden konnte. 2 x THATS MG-X60 Type 4 IV METAL 60 Minutes Blank Audio Cassette Tape - Used These are from my large collection of cassette tapes going back to the 70s-90s before the advent of recordable CDs. They were manufactured around 1990-92. They havent been used since the early 2000s and have been carefully stored. They are used and in excellent condition. They have been recorded on once only. The recording tabs are intact. They are sold on the basis that they will be recorded over with your own music. Every tape has been individually checked to make sure it is working and rewound to the beginning of Side A. The photos show a typical example of the overall condition of the cassette, case and insert card. The insert card has been written in pencil on one side only.
