The model SU-7700 is built entirely with Japanese discrete transistors, without integrated circuits in the amplifier stages or the tone control stages. Only the input equializers which normalise the various input levels, are built around two Toshiba TA 7136 P low-noise, low-distortion operational amplifiers of low integration (7-pins, 11 transistors). The Technics SU-7700 amplifier has a classic schematic – a push-pull end-stage with fully complementary power and driver transistor pairs, and a differential pre-driver stage. The output transistors work in a deep class AB, which at lower power output (i.e. most of the time) works virtually in a push-pull class A, for a lowest possible distortion. The output transistors are mounted on a large aluminium heat-sink, and the amplifier case permits good natural ventilation. There is no fan to produce noise. The amplifier has a good set of various tone controls and correctors, e.g. loudness, high- and low-filters, variable treble and bass controls, and a RIAA-correction of the Phono input (moving magnet). The Technics SU-7700 has also a very handy input/output switchboard, which enables the playback, record and tape-dubbing without reconnecting cables. With this amplifier, one can: - play a vinyl record and send the signal to a computer to digitally record it; - play a compact disk or cassette and send the signal to record it on a reel-to-reel tape deck. With a 3-head deck, one can listen to the new recording while it is being made; - connect an external equializer (or sound processor) after all inputs and before the power amplifier (loop). If the equalizer itself has a Tape Play/Rec input/output and switch, the options become even richer. The correct cable connections and switches positions are explained in words and diagrams in the Technics Owners Manual (enclosed in the package). The amplifier construction is very solid, with a thick aluminium front panel, aluminium knobs and handles, in gloss finish. It has two back-lit VU meter systems, which can be used to monitor the recording level or the output power. The output connectors are colour-coded screws (no spring clips), where the loudspeaker cables can be fastened reliably. The amplifier operates with a protective switch-on delay of a few seconds, and has a built-in overload protection. The sound is warm and deep, with clean, bright treble, detailed mid-range, and solid, smooth bass – as it is expected from a deep class AB operation. The amplifier is fully functional, with all controls, indicators and connectors in good working condition. The amplifier is in a very good cosmetic condition – without scratches, dents, peeled or rusted spots, without any odour or discoloration. It has been used carefully, in a smoke-free and pet-free household, at room temperature. The case was thoroughly cleaned inside and out. All switches, selectors and potentiometers were pump-dusted and deoxidized. I am selling the amplifier due to removal to a smaller apartment and downsizing my Hi-Fi system. The set contains: the Technics SU-7700 amplifier the original audio cable (RCA cinch connectors) the Owners Manual (in English) the Service Manual (in English) with the amplifier schematic and circuit boards layout.
