The cd tray open/close button, play, pause and stop button work on the unit.The seek function on the knob works both forward and backward. The remote play, pause and stop button work. The CD tray opens and closes. It does squeak now and then when opening. I do not have any speakers to hook this unit up to to test the sound to so basing all of the tests on the screen readouts. Comes with power cord and remote. No batteries. This unit came out of an affluent gentlemens estate. Shaft will be in the LOCKED POSITION during transport. This completely isolates the CD from any mechanical spindle motors that every CD player has thus eliminating vibration and potential skips or motor issues. It was expensive to build and way under appreciated as a feature of this player. The P555, P770 and P999 did not have this. The top of the case has recently been re-sprayed. It is not an exact match as its nearly impossible to match this Technics colour, but looks really nice. Although obviously not a perfect factory finish ( it still has some slight blemishes and very small ding on the top)..... It is a very close match and unless really looking under bright light most people would not notice. It looks a lot better than most covers I have seen of this age all deeply scratched and beaten up! The front facia is near mint with barely a mark on it.Details: Powers on and the display is nice and bright and all the buttons work. The tray belt has just been replaced with a brand new one - it was ok but I changed anyway as I wasnt sure of the age of the old one. The laser has been cleaned and the sled rails cleaned and lubricated. It has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out down to every last button and all switches etc have been cleaned with contact cleaner where necessary.It has been tested with a selection of discs and played all of them great! Occasionally on certain discs it takes a few seconds to load the disc, or a few seconds to play the first track. However once playing it skips between tracks quickly and has never not loaded a disc for me (tried about 10 different discs)! This is a very clean, low hours Technics SL-P999 top of the line CD Player from 1989. Japanese 100V model. With original (hard to find) remote control EUR64727. Plays CDs and CD-Rs both without issues. Really fast table of contents read and track finding. I love the VU meter, jog dial, and audible pause feature. DAC is the Burr-Brown PCM56 for warm analogue-style sound. Note there are a few minor scrapes on the outer casing but it is very presentable.
