1990s Technics SL-PG520A CD player with 4 DAC and MASH, in a lovely clean and fully working condition. Generally in good condition, however, there is a small amount of mottling and some slight discoloration to the top lid (see photos), it is not generally visible without close inspection, or when used with other units stacked on top, and has no effect on the machines operation. {Title} Item Description The Technics SL-P990 is a high end sought after vintage compact disc player by Technics - Made in Japan in 1989. It delivers high-quality sound and is very well made with some fantastic features including VU meters (ON A CD PLAYER)! Many regard this as one of the best CD players ever made! The P990 model is extremely rare and hard to come across these days. Especially in very good condition and nice working order like this one Many think the SL-P999 that came after the P990 was basically the same but although a great player itself, it was a slightly cheapened out version and inferior in a few ways. The P990 features a larger window for seeing the disc play, and a direct drive motor for better sound isolation. This completely isolates the CD from any mechanical spindle motors that every CD player has thus eliminating vibration and potential skips or motor issues. It was expensive to build and way under appreciated as a feature of this player. The P555, P770 and P999 did not have this. Has the odd very light scratch/ mark or blemish...but nothing significant at all. It has been really well looked after and cherished by just the one owner since new! The top of the case has recently been re-sprayed. It is not an exact match as its nearly impossible to match this Technics colour, but looks really nice. Although obviously not a perfect factory finish ( it still has some slight blemishes and very small ding on the top)..... It is a very close match and unless really looking under bright light most people would not notice. It looks a lot better than most covers I have seen of this age all deeply scratched and beaten up! The front facia is near mint with barely a mark on it.Details: Powers on and the display is nice and bright and all the buttons work. The tray belt has just been replaced with a brand new one - it was ok but I changed anyway as I wasnt sure of the age of the old one. The laser has been cleaned and the sled rails cleaned and lubricated. It has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out down to every last button and all switches etc have been cleaned with contact cleaner where necessary.It has been tested with a selection of discs and played all of them great! Occasionally on certain discs it takes a few seconds to load the disc, or a few seconds to play the first track. However once playing it skips between tracks quickly and has never not loaded a disc for me (tried about 10 different discs)! Includes the original and very rare remote (also in very good, clean condition and working well), Power lead and high quality RCA Cables plus a print out copy of the original manual. Almost as if a new performer had taken to the instrument, huge in scale without blowing things out of proportion.They almost failed to recognize our Panufnik track whose sense of drama had always seemed lacking before. Now all the disparate, staccato elements pulled together, weighty and engaging. This expansive sense of acoustic extended to our pop tracks without compromising any sense of subtle detail. Sweeping movements were handled as gracefully as the tiniest inflection, astonishingly spacious, gloriously musical. A cracker.ConclusionThe above says it all. Our listeners were utterly bowled over by the sound of this player which had a sense of expression, of drama and scale that put far costlier products in the shade. It has all the hallmarks of a fine audio product: big, powerful, seductive yet never forceful. All the hallmarks of the ‘high-end’. I prefer collection but will post, if we to post we will very carefully bubble wrap the units and lay it on a bed of bubble wrap in a very strong box that we will purchase specially for the posting. We use Aircap branded extra large bubble wrap and where we can recycled packing, we pride ourselves on our packing so that you receive your item in one piece.
