I have had this unit since 1988 but it has very little use over the last 20 years. All the buttons lights and switches work but the on light does not. The Teac DX-8 was designed for use with the Teac / Tascam 80 - 8 multitrack tape machine. There was an automated switching system built into the Tape machine which worked with the DX-8 via a control cable which would decode and encode as to whenever the record or play button was used. The unit has been modified with a manual switching system which allows it to be used with any multitrack tape - note the chrome switches on the front panel. The use of the DX 8 elevated the quality of the Tascam 38 recordings from semi professional (as judged at the time) to a high quality noiseless professional standard. So this unit is very rare and unique - I expect the knowledge and expertise to design and modify the DX8 for universal use is even rarer than the unit itself! I have included some custom made recording studio looms which I used with the unit and the tape machine and a Soundcraft Analogue mixer which are photographed:16 x 16 Phono to Phono for in and out of the 8 Track / DX8 - 120cm8 x 8 1/4 Jack to Phono Mixer Buss out to to Record in - 8 x Phono out to 1/4 in to Channel and Monitor return at Mixer. The dbx system offers up to 30 dB of noise reduction each time you go on to and off tape, which means that more track bumping and remixes can be attempted before tape noise clouds the sound. Although no noise reduction system, including the more expensive Dolby A, can reduce tape and electronic noise to zero, every bit of reduction helps.To put it as briefly as possible, dbx works by compressing or encoding the signals before they are recorded, and expanding or decoding them as they are replayed off tape. The Teac DX-8 module incorporates eight channels of dbx noise reduction that can be switched to either encode or decode.Physically the module matches the 80-8 in width and depth; it even comes complete with wooden side panels for fixing to the tape machine. This lead supplies information about the mode of operation of each individual track.The front-panel has an on/off switch (and power indicator lamp) plus two rows of eight LEDs labelled encode and decode to show the status of each channel. When power is off, the inputs to the DX-8 are connected directly to the outputs, and the unit is inoperative. Turning on the unit causes the dbx system to come into operation. Now the mode of each track on the 80-8 — either record, replay or sync — will determine whether the signal to or from the machine has to be encoded or decoded. To give you an example, suppose we wish to record on tracks 1, 2 and 3 and listen in sync off the other five. Channels 1, 2 and 3 on the DX-8 will have to be switched to the encode mode, while the rest need to be in the decode mode to process the previously encoded signals coming off tape. Which is where the special lead connecting the DX-8 to the 80-8 comes into action. It automatically selects the status — encode or decode — of each channel of the noise reduction unit to suit the needs of each track. Very neat, and it does away with the operator having to work out what each channel on the DX-8 should be doing at any one time. Teac AN- 50 Dolby Noise Reduction Unit. For auction is a Teac AN-50 Dolby Noise Reduction Unit for cassette decks. I am unaware if this unit works so I am selling it AS IS. It is complete with the manual. The physical condition rates at about 6.5 to 7. I say this since the top of the unit has obvious wear. The front panel looks good, however there is engraving on the front panel. The unit lights up when powered on. So Im assuming it works. But since I am unsure I am selling it as is. 800x600 You are looking at a TEAC A-360 Vintage Hi-Fi cassette tape recorder. Lovely Japanese built vintage tape recorder from 1973. It will need some work to make it perfect however. Playback is great, FFW works great, RRW struggles or wont work at close the start of the tape but works fine halfway and towards the end of the tape. Please watch the video. It does record on to tape but I would say it needs some calibration to bias etc to obtain optimum results. I have not attempted to do this. Recordings are brighter than source. Please watch the video. The left hand VU meter is not working. The TEAC A-360 is a stereo cassette deck with Dolby B noise reduction, it was introduced by TEAC in 1974 and discontinued 2 years later in 1976. The main features of the TEAC A-360 are: 2 heads, analog 3-digit tape counter and memory stop, tape type selection with support for normal tapes, belt driven single-capstan transport. Typical of this deck is the 70s top loading layout with the cassette compartment located on the left side of the deck. TEAC AN-80 Dolby Noise Reduction Unit. In excellent condition, in use with a reel to reel when removed a couple of years ago. Powers up and passes audio, though I dont have the equipment to test it further. A couple of minor scratches in the top, as pictured and a bit of chipped paint on the top of the front panel. Very good condition for the age. Belonged to my father who is downsizing. Collection in person is recommended as shipping can cause issues with vintage gear, but Ill package it well to ship if wanted.
