The Thorens TD 135 is the baby brother to the more popular and well-knowned TD 124. It is almost the same as its big brother except that it has a fixed tonearm mounted on it. Even without a wood base or plinth the turntable is ready to be set up in any system just as it is. It has four speeds (16,33,45,78) and uses the same motor as TD 124. Very rare model world-wide and especially scarce in the US. Works on both 110/220 50/60Hz voltage, switchable on the back. Very clean overall cosmetic condition, but as this is 60-year-old vintage electronics, consider this a project to bring it up to original specs. Any technical specifications below are lifted from the web, not my expertise. The Thorens TD135 II is compact version of the iconic TD124 with the integral TP14 or BTD12S tonearm (not marked). I’ve read both tonearm described as standard on TD-135II models; I’m letting the experts determine it. The TD-135 MkII uses the same E50 motor and drive system as the famous Thorens TD-124 with a lighter platter. Its semi-automatic, (the motor stops at the end of the record). Both the BTD-12S & TP14 Tonearms are highly regarded according to vintage Hi-Fi forums I was reading. It’s got an integrated pop-up 45rpm adapter. The amplifier has 7 tubes: (4) ECC83/12AX7, (2) EL84/6BQ5, (1) EZ80. Probably all original circuitry that should be checked out and serviced if necessary. Selling for restoration as there is no counterweight. I crudely fashioned a counterweight as temporary fix as seen. It works well enough to dial it in for 2gr tracking. Original EU power cord was missing, so using travel adapters and an AC cord which are all included, it will work on regular US power. It does have the common Thorens droop on the counterweight assembly. Cosmetically is pretty darn spiffy condition given its luggage use and 60-year-old age. No rust or corrosion as it is closed up in its natural storage state. There are light house paint splatters on the grills which can be removed for further detailing if desired; there are some printing losses on the control faceplate. See pics as they are part of the description. It is in working condition with amp powering up and turntable spinning with audio on both channels. Comes with Shure M93E. The Thorens turntable spins on all speeds. Motor is quiet. Cueing works; knob could use some adjustment. ‘On’ power switch operates via moving tonearm to the outside and power down at end of play works (see video) or can switched to full manual. Amazingly, the anti-skate weight and line are still in place.It is fairly large when closed and very heavy being made of wood and metal. Original Thorens Headshell fr TD124 und 135 MK1 mit BDT-12S Tonarm. Der Aluminium Fhrungshebel war mal leicht verbogen und durchs wieder nach oben biegen am Schaft die Stelle noch leicht fhlbar, Hebel kann man aber abschrauben und die Stelle auch wieder gerade klopfen da nur Aluminium und sei nur der Ordnungshter erwhnt, sonst ok.

Verkaufe hier meinen Thorens TD 135 in einer seltenen Ausführung als Thorens compact 1 von der Paillard-Bolex GmbH München. Das Gerät wurde vermutlich zwischen 1961-1964 gebaut. Bei mir steht es jetzt schon ca. 30 Jahre im Schrank. Das Gerät muss komplett repariert und restauriert werden. ca. Maße Chassis: 54x38,5x13cm, mit Haube ca. 21cm hoch, Gewicht über 15kg. Das Einzige was ich überprüft habe ist der Motor vom Plattenspieler und der bewegt sich, wenn man das Gerät an Strom anschließt. Von der Plexiglas-Abdeckhaube ist leider nur noch die Rückseite mit den Scharnieren erhalten. Immerhin kennt man aber dadurch die Abmessungen der Abdeckhaube und kann diese somit nachfertigen. Thorens TD-135 turntable - a beautiful vintage piece that still sounds wonderful today. The smaller cousin of the legendary TD-124, it shares the same idler drive system. Where it differs, is it uses a different platter and a smaller platter bearing. It does not have the speed strobe indicator of the 124. It comes with a standard BTD-12S tonearm which shared commonalities with the EMT tonearm a that were much adored at that time. As the tonearm is permanently installed to the top plate, the turntable cannot be as quiet as the TD-124, but in a heavier plinth, and with some of the available modifications, the TD-135 is still a wonderful and powerful music machine. The tonearm likes cartridges that are heavier in weight - in my experience a Denon DL-103 or a Shure M7 (or variant) is a very good performer. The turntable is in very nice condition for its age, probably born in the early 60s. The plinth that is currently its base allows it to play well but really needs a heavier base to absorb some of the idler noise and sound it’s very best. The existing plinth can be modified with more mass and suitably restored to get very good performance. This motor runs quietly and has been lubricated - it should be good for another 10 or so years before maintenance may be required. I have added a motor spring modification which acts to quiet the motor noise to create a much quieter background. The main platter bearing has been cleaned and lubricated and spins well and for a long time once put into motion. I will include a cartridge you can use on the turntable, but I do recommend finding a cartridge that will perform to the full capability of the turntable. The drive pulley and idler assembly has been cleaned and lubricated as necessary. The turntable table has its original power and audio cabling, which still sounds good but could be replaced for future longevity. Speed, as shown in the RPM app screenshot at 33rpm, is very good and consistent for all speeds. These turntables can take a few minutes to “warm up” and achieve speed stability, but in testing this table was quite quick to stabilize. As a note, this turntable has an unorthodox method of being started. The tonearm needs to be manually lifted and then moved to the right of the arm rest. This triggers the motor switch. From here the desired speed can be selected and the platter will spin. The TD-135 has a unique, for the period of time it was designed, auto stop feature. When the tonearm gets into the end of the LP and into the inner zone, the motor switch will be triggered and shut off automatically. You then manually bring the tonearm back to the rest and switch the speed selector to one of the “0” settings (to reduce chance of idler wheel flat spots which can create rumble). This turntable demonstrates significant engineering from the time period of its design and very much keeps up in today’s world while demonstrating a very much “point in time” elegance. It’s an awesome turntable and will provide service for many years. I will always have one in my collection. Buyer to pay postage from Toronto, Canada.
