Up for auction is my used but in like new condition Sunfire Cinema 7 Grand amplifier. The Sunfire Cinema Grand series was designed by Bob Carver (Famous Amp builder & Physicist) and he personally proclaimed this amplifier series design to be his best work. This model amp is the 7 channel model that puts out 200 watts/channel into 8 ohms and a 400 watts/channel into 4 ohms. It has both RCA and XLR connects (see photos). For additional specs you can reference the manufacturer specifications online. I chose and purchased the standard Cinema 7 amplifier model over the Signature model due to some inherent over heating issues the high powered Signature model had with driving speakers that were 4 ohms. The standard Cinema 7 Grand amp is one of the most Cool running amplifiers I have ever owned. It sounds superb in home theater as well as 2 channel audiophile listening and I never had an issue with it overheating or it running hot. It was able to provide the BASS I needed in my home theater setup as well as the juice I needed to run my two power hungry 4 ohm tower speakers in 2-channel stereo listening. This amp has been in storage inside my home for several years and has very little use on it. It was one time used to power my second home theater room but was replaced with a Krell amplifier. I am selling to just clear out items I no longer use and to make space. This amp has been well taken care of and was never in a smoking environment or damaged in any way. I just replaced the original light bulb that it came with as these are notorious for burning out. The bulbs do not provide a bright illumination as it was designed to give off that old fashion warm lighting. You can purchase an LED replacement bulb that will put out a beacon of bright white light or even an indigo blue light. I wanted to keep the original design so I used the same warm color bulb. He obviously knows more above these than I do. I connected each channel and they worked, but I did not turn it up or play it for a while. The meter on front works but I could not get it to light up. This unit is in great shape. All channels tested and working as they should. The only flaw is that the display light is burned out. Of course does not affect performance at all. Eighteen International Rectifier Hexfets (per channel) cant be wrong. Simply the finest amplifier Ive ever heard. And that includes Macs, Brystons and a Krell or three. They are not neutral, nor especially analytical. But they are brutal in the bottom octave. Google the White Paper. The amps they can deliver (even into a single ohm for short periods) is nothing short of miraculous. Like my favorite Receiver (the SX-1980) the Macs I put them up against current limit for self-protection. The Sunfires Stereo Sigs self protection is itll throw your 20 amp breaker. (And I wouldnt run one on a circuit with less than that, or youre not hearing its full potential.) I would seek Bill Flannery out if your amp has seen hard usage. Its an investment in another twenty-five years of flawless service. IF its low hours/driven on Sundays, then Id say itll last you the rest of your life as is. If you dont know its history, then here are a couple of things Ive found that make a difference: 1. TIGHTEN THE TRANSFORMER SCREWS ON THE BOTTOM. If youre hearing a hum/buzz its very likely not a fault issue, the transformers probably vibrated loose. 2. Clean all the fuses and holders. 3. Tighten up the connections at the (detachable) AC cord/inlet interface. That can be tricky, and if youre not comfortable with doing without damaging the prongs of the AC cord inlet, dont mess with it. I tightened mine up by (gently) twisting them so they would have a tighter contact with the contacts inside the AC cord. I wanted it to be a little grippier than it was from the factory. I do the same thing with all connectors. Tighters better, short of overdoing it so it pulls the interface out of the component. Enjoy! I have two (400x5 and 600x2) and theyre the last amps Ill own.
