Seems that Sumiko had worked up a design for a cross-coil type high-output MC they wanted to produce, and found a large run of some empty blue plastic cartridge bodies that had been intended for another brand of cartridge that never got off the ground. The only problem was, the blue cartridge shells were P-mount types intended for EZ-2-Setup, Lame-O Japanese plastic turntables and the lazy-ass mofos who buy em. Fortunately, the people whod made the blue P-mount bodies also made screw-on adapters for standard headshells, so Sumiko stuck the guts of their cartridge into the el-cheapo blue body and, amazingly and totally out of typical high-end character, priced the cartridge accordingly.This is the Original Sumiko Blue Point. One of the most iconic MC cartridges ever built. Priced affordable but still with the big sound of Moving Coil and with the convenience of High Output so no step up or MC compatible phono preamp is needed.In audiophile circles, the Blue Point quickly became a cult fave spawning two more versions later. This is the OG and a true collectors item. Hello. Here is for sale Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III Low Output MC cartridge. I bought it brand new three years ago as a back up cartridge and never mounted until two weeks ago. Right from beginning the cartridge had distortion in the Left channel and now the Left channel completely gone. It is too late to return this cartridge,so my loss is your gain.May be there is a disruption in wire attachment. I cannot figure that out and I do not have any means to check, physically or visually (my eye sight is no longer that good even with the magnifying glass). So,please, understand, that you buying this cartridge for part/repair only! It might be an easy repair if you know what you doing. The stylus is great and sounded excellent sans distortion when it worked.
