Sony labels this STR-D665 AM/FM receiver (a tuner + amplifier) as a Stereo Surround model. It has a switch to turn Off Surround mode, making it a conventional 2-channel stereo unit, but it can also be operated as a 5 channel Dolby Surround or Pro-Logic home theater receiver. It provides Phono input, absent from most surround sound receivers for at least a decade, but necessary today for the connection of a quality turntable with magnetic type cartridge to support the revived popularity of vinyl record listening. Sony provides a dynamic power rating of 150 watts x 2, but the continuous power rating at full bandwidth and with lowest distortion measure is 100 watts into 8 ohm speakers for Left, Right, and Center channels, and 30 watts for each of the two rear channels. Thats a total of 360 watts RMS.
