Discription A step-up transformer that reduces low-frequency distortion over a wide bandwidth while taking into account the tendency of MC cartridges to have a wider frequency response. In order to obtain linear and good characteristics, the step-up transformer is divided into two coils, and a balanced split sandwich winding structure of primary and secondary coils is used. This reduces leakage inductance and distributed capacitance, thereby improving high-frequency characteristics. In addition, a large inductance is used to improve the low-frequency characteristics and distortion rate, and the characteristics are designed to be flat within the bandwidth. The 3-stage switching function is provided for 3 ohms, 40 ohms, and PASS.Generally, frequency characteristics deteriorate when multiple taps are produced from the same winding, but in the AU-340, two types of coils are effectively wired together on the primary side to ensure good characteristics for each tap. For the core material, a 0.2mm thin sheet of carefully selected Super Permalloy, specially heat-treated and laminated in many layers, is employed in consideration of low-level use.Since this Super Permalloy is extremely delicate, a double layer of cushioning material is placed between the transformer and the shield case to keep the magnetic characteristics from being damaged by external mechanical shocks, and the transformer is kept floating. In order to block external noise, multiple shields made of Permalloy are used for each of the left and right transformers. Major components such as circuit boards and switches are also shielded with silicon steel plates to reduce noise. Two input switching functions are provided. A light-acting push-switch is employed to ensure sufficient contact resistance. Gold-plated input/output terminals are used. High-grade pin plugs with low resistance, low capacitance, and gold-plated terminals are included.
