Red Sony Walkman WM-101 Item Description: I just think this is absolutely stunning - in my opinion Sony at the very height of their powers in the mid 1980s - beautiful design, combined with miniaturisation without sacrificing any functionality! The WM-101 is highly sought-after, particularly in Red. Working really nicely, perfect in one direction, a little wow and flutter in the other, but still within acceptable bounds in my opinion, listen to the video and judge for yourself. Refurbished and serviced with a new belt and playing perfectly - all gears have been checked and are intact. Im not a professional sound engineer - I feed the output from the walkman into the mic input on my Canon DSLR. These are complex analogue machines in a digital world - the old belt residue must be completely and meticulously removed - otherwise the new belt will wobble causing wow and flutter. There are plenty of guys on ebay refurbishing these but if you havent heard it play then you really dont know what youre getting - except with me where you do know exactly what youre getting because youve heard it play for yourself. Condition: Physically its in nice used condition, it had suffered from a small battery leak which has marked the bottom of the back of the case - but has not caused any mechanical or electrical damage - please study the photos carefully. Mechanically the belt had turned to goo so the old belt residue has been meticulously cleaned and a new belt installed - the head, roller and capstan have been cleaned - so it now plays perfectly, in stereo at the right speed with no wow or flutter, it rewinds and fast-forwards as it should. All gears have been checked and are intact. The volume potentiometer has been cleaned so the volume adjusts smoothly without crackle or dropout. It still has the battery cover and the battery terminals are now reasonably corrosion free after a good scrape with a knife. This Walkman is useable on a daily basis - sounds as good as the day it was new and should not give you any trouble for years to come. Why buy from me?
