You can have an ultimate home theater setup at extremely low cost with this Sony VPL-VW1000ES 4K, 3D Projector. It comes with a new lamp that was just installed. It has just 14 hours on it. This former flagship reference Sony projector has a native resolution of 4096 x 2160, and a contrast ratio of 100,000:1. It projects absolutely crystal clear images that will leave you shaking your head. Connectivity is easy with two HDMI ports. I have a Sony 4K Blu Ray player and the latest 4K AppleTV connected to the projector and have never had a single issue. Setup is simple. The projector has Motorized Focus, Shift and Zoom. They are directly accessed from dedicated backlit buttons on the remote control. No hunting for them deep in menus. With the brand new lamp, it looks utterly fantastic. The images have so much detail, three-dimensional depth, and richness. And the phenomenal quality of the Sony lens makes the images unbelievably sharp. Check out the photo taken with just my phone from the terrific new Netflix series, The Gentlemen. The vivid colors of the chicken costume, the deep contrast, the 4K sharpness of the costume details, and the image brightness are all terrific. Having a projector like this makes watching 4K movies and absorbing series on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and other streaming services so much more enjoyable and involving than watching it on a TV, even an OLED set. I have a great Sony OLED in the same room as the projector and I never use it at night anymore. Plus, and this may come as a surprise, the Sony VW1000ES operates seamlessly from an AppleTV remote. It turns on and off with just the press of a button on the Apple remote. The built in 12-volt trigger on the projector simultaneously lowers and raises my Screen Innovations Solo battery operated screen, too. It could not be easier or more convenient! And combine it, as I have, with a pair of wireless Airpod Pros that sync automatically to the latest 4K AppleTV... and you have a perfect lifestyle system that you can play as loud as you like at night without disturbing anyone else in the house. Ive never gotten so much use or pleasure out of my projection system. For you 3D fans, the VW1000ES does absolutely great 3D. The reviews were unequivocal about that feature. Plus, it also can generate 3D images from 2D images. The synthesized effect is not perfect but its fun to play around with. Over the years, Ive had every kind of projector you can imagine: Vidikron Vision One, Sony G90 (combined with the sensational Faroudja DVP-5000), Sony Qualia, JVC DLAs, NECs, Runcos, Epsons, and Marantz DLPs. I could not believe how superior the image from this former Sony flagship projector is to all of these despite its age. It will take a minimum of a new $8K JVC DLA to beat it. There are two reasons for the Sonys competitive longevity. The first is that Sony was well known for selling its flagship projectors such as the G90, Qualia, and later this 1000ES, at a loss. They would design and manufacture them with bleeding edge technology (like full 4K resolution and the fully Dynamic Iris on this one for maximum contrast) to create the best home projector money could buy... while keeping the cost moderate so that they were more accessible to Sony fans. The second reason is the lens. The quality of this lens even to this day is hard to match. If youre a serious photographer, you know how much great lens glass costs... and the night-and-day difference it makes. The end result is a projector that is the single most satisfying piece of video equipment I have ever owned. If you enjoy playing around, you can even up the performance with a pre-owned Lumagen Radiance Pro and youll be in heaven. (The Lumagen is super low cost these days on eBay, usually just a few hundred dollars.) The Lumagen has aspect ratio control, too, so you can employ its non-linear stretch function to fill your HDTV screen and avoid the black bars above and below the image that you sometimes get. Or if you have a 2.35 screen, theres no anamorphic lens required. You can also widen a 16:9 image with the intelligent stretch mode to completely fill the screen. (FYI, the VW1000ES has a Zoom function that operates similarly, but not as well.)
