Before reading this please watch the uploaded video for detailed listing and explanation of the testing and issue found. eBay limits the size of the upload to 150MB so I had to cut the original video from over 6 minutes to less than 4 even at the lowest resolution. Apologies! This is my second best item in my Walkman collection overall, the first being the WM-6DC listed separately. It was quite disheartening to hear it start clicking, when I had acquired it over two years ago it was of course operating flawlessly and aside from the initial testing, it was stored securely in its box. But the plastics SONY used in its design do age regardless of use so did this. If you are thinking in investing in one of these remarkable vintage products, I do not think you can do better than this particular unit. It’s complete and cosmetically and operationally perfect--aside from the chronic planetary gear issue all units will get sooner or later. A quick Google search will reveal the enthusiast forums listing the exact METAL replacement gears and the detailed repair guide. The cost of the part is less than $50. Since I’m not an expert technician with only rudimentary skills, I had opted to offer this piece as is instead of repairing it myself because I absolutely do not want to risk any small part being misplaced or lost during the process due to my inexperience. On the upside this WM-D3 is perfect in any other way, so it is absolutely the right candidate for an an easy repair to someone who knows what he or she is doing because it had no other electronic or mechanical issue that requires calibration or other complication. It is the perfect repair candidate and when the Aluminum gears are in this should be set for life as those will never have this particular issue again. Only wish SONY had used metal gears for a Professional product instead of the plastics but its water under the bridge now. Hopefully my photos and even the limited video does a good enough representation of what is being offered. If I do not get a sufficient offer, I will withdraw it from sale and find a qualified, reputable resource who can repair it for me. Sony WM-D3 Walkman Professional Stereo Cassette Player Recorder New no box, MINT. This unit is vintage but Brand New, never used!! No box however. It is accordingly in mint condition with all accessories and manual/paperwork. This Sony recorder has NEVER been used, it has been stored in a smoke free, pet free, and temperature/humidity controlled environment. HOWEVER: Although positively brand new and unused, I thought it prudent to actually insert batteries and test the unit after getting several questions as to operation. Upon doing a test, it was discovered that the lengthy storage did in fact somehow affect the unit. It powered up fine, all indicator lights were fine. There was sound but it was static. The play/reverse/fast forward functions were not 100%. These functions were inconsistent in operation. I’m not familiar with these vintage units. But google searches revealed that time alone can affect the operation. Belt perhaps? Not sure. Please bid accordingly. Accordingly, I ended the last auction of this item to update the description and pricing.
