The original remote is included but I belive it may need a battery replacement as it does not power on the unit. There are no problems manually powering up the unit. This Sony isnt beat up and the speaker mesh is in good shape as well! I saw or heard no issues while I was playing 1 of my Citizens Steely Dan CDs! This CD player works perfectly and reliably but is missing the remote. There are some mild cosmetic imperfections on the sides of the player and on the speakers as pictured. The left speaker wire has a small repair with electrical tape and it feels like the shell of the main unit comes off a bit too easily so you will need to be careful when transporting the system.
