Sony CD Player Model CDP-101 - WORKING WITH FAULT - Read Description. CONDITION IS: SPARES OR REPAIR FAULTY FOR PARTS OR PROJECT ONLY NOT WORKING. Item powers on, CD drawer opens, disc loads and plays, sounds very nice. All appears to be working as it should with the exception of the on/off button. The unit is always on regardless of the switch position. On the circuit board behind the switch is a small capacitor (switch suppression capacitor?) which looks like its burnt out. When the unit is powered on for a few minutes it starts to smell like melting plastic which I assume is caused by a larger than expected current going through the shorted capacitor. Unfortunately I do not have any time to invest in the repair as I am critically overstocked. I think it should be a simple fix to swap out a capacitor, however I have only done a brief visual assessment of item so there may be other issues as yet undiscovered. PLEASE NOTE THE ITEM IS NOT INTENDED TO BE USED IN ITS CURRENT STATE AND WILL NEED TO BE REPAIRED BY A SUITABLY QUALIFIED PERSON. MAIN UNIT ONLY, NO REMOTE CONTROL, NO MANUAL, NO CABLES, NO RETURNS. Vintage Sony CDP-101, 1st cd digital player, early 1980’s & remote control, in working order with box. It has only had one owner.The CD player is in very good condition with some minor scratches to case. The box is original and usable with all the polystyrene corner protectors but is very tatty where it has been taped up for house moves.

CD plays inside with no issues. Tracking clearly seen in display. There is no audio that comes out of the unit. This is most likely an easy fix but beyond my capabilities. The back and top of the unit has a few marks and scratches. Not visible from front of unit. A few marks on the front. Please see images. I am selling an entire 1980s Sony stereo in parts.
