The best word to describe the Sonance 260 amplifier would be overbuilt. This is a simplified version of the 260x3 which was designed to drive 2-ohm loads without overheating or distortion (three paralleled 8-ohm speakers represent a load of 2.7 ohms). The 260 has the same internals and can be used to drive the most difficult loads. I picked this up when I had a pair of classic Infinity Kappa Six speakers. The Kappa 7s and 8s were infamous amp-killers and I wasnt taking any chances on the 6s. The Sonamp made them sing. The Sonamp 260x3 [and 260]is rated for outputs of 60, 100, and 125 watts per channel into 8, 4, and 2 ohms, respectively, from 20 to 20,000 Hz at respective distortion levels of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 percent. The respective dynamic powers into those impedances are given as 85, 120, and 140 watts per channel. A-weighted signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) is 100 dB referred to rated output. Input sensitivity for rated output is 0.625 volt at maximum gain. The most notable aspect of the Sonamp 260x3’s performance was its ability to drive low load impedances without damage or degradation of performance (the increased distortion under those conditions is normal and characteristic of almost all amplifiers). The amplifier never shut down, overheated, or suffered any damage under our most severe test conditions. In addition, I have made the following upgrades: Bypassed the input stage which contain the only op-amps in the entire unit. (Consequently the line out connections are disabled) Got this mod from a fellow on DIY Audio.com who states Totally shocked that this...amp literally blew them all away, in one of my most sought after features. It has an amazing clean and very detail performance, once that little board is bypassed. [FAIR WARNING: this may have disabled the auto-on feature (which I never use)] Upgraded the C801 / C901 4.7uf electrolytics capacitors on the main board to higher-value nichicon muse series capacitors for better LF phase linearity and lower cutoff (again based on recommendation from DIYAudio.com) Bypassed the level control potentiometers to remove one more component from the signal chain Disconnected the annoying red LED that is always on whether the amp is turned on or not

Cosmetic Description: It looks pretty good with the usual scuffs and dust. Note: The Sonamp 260x3 is a high-cur-rent, 60-watt-per-channel stereo amplifier with a number of features that make it well suited for custom installations. It is designed to drive difficult loads, particularly the low impedances presented by multiple parallel-connected remote speakers. For convenience in operating multizone systems, the 260x3 has pushbuttons on its front panel for individual activation of its three pairs of speaker outputs. And the stereo line-input jacks on the rear apron are paralleled with a second pair for linking (“daisy-chaining”) additional amplifiers. The Sonamp 260x3 is designed to drive 2-ohm loads without overheating or distortion (three paralleled 8-ohm speakers represent a load of 2.7 ohms). Its discrete output transistors are mounted on heat sinks, convection-cooled by air entering holes in the bottom plate and exiting through holes in the top cover. The power supply uses a heavy toroidal transformer with 30,000 microfarads (?F) of filter capacitance.
