These are said to be the cream of the crop of Snell THX speakers. Flagship designs by Kevin Voecks, who went on to design the Revel line. These are somewhat rare, theres not a ton of info on these out there except that J. Gordon Holt had a lot of praise for the system in a write up in the Dec. 92 issue of Stereophile.All original drivers in working condition. Woofers have rubber surrounds so no need to refoam. Acoustic foam surrounding the tweeters is in great shape. Cabinets are good to excellent, with a couple minor blemishes, but one has some swelling at the bottom. See video of speakers in operation here. These are really great sounding speakers, very smooth but extended highs, velvety mids and very decent/punchy bass thanks to the dual woofers and acoustic suspension cabinet.These are currently only being sold for pickup in the Rochester, NY metro area. Rarely available pair of Snell Type A speakers. Amazingly, these are one owner speakers!! My uncle, an avid audiophile, recently passed away in New York. I am in Chicago with no way to ship the speakers. He bought all of his equipment new, and it sat in his same non-smoking, pet-free apartment for decades. He drove these with Jadis JA-80 monoblocks and an a CAT SL1 preamp which are in my possession. I have every reason to believe these speakers work perfectly. However, his friend that is storing them temporarily does not own audio equipment to test them. Therefore, to preserve my excellent feedback history, they must be sold for parts only/non-functioning/as-is. Also, I am unable to provide any additional pictures. Cosmetically, as you can see, there is evidence of water staining. Sorry, this is the best I can do and will likely benefit the savvy buyer looking for a great deal on these outstanding speakers. A very nice pair of Snell Type J IIs from the early-mid 80s. The cabinets are in fine shape with a small amount of typical wear... no major chips or dents, but minimal scratches and wear from regular use. See pics. I think the finish is Golden Oak, and the grills are the more rare brown variant... the badges are new reproductions. They are not perfect, but they are not abused. The original Seas woofers have been refoamed and the original, and mazing sounding, Tongen tweeters revarnished by Holt Hill Audio. They did a great job and the speakers sound lively and fresh. The stands in the pictures are not included. Please ask any questions. Speakers will be boxed individually and professionally. Local pickup is preferred but I can ship. Being sold As-Is, due to age.
