Da der Laser ein Verschleißteil mit endlicher Lebensdauer ist, haben gebrauchte Lasereinheiten immer ein diesbezügliches Risiko. Mit Glück erhält man ein Gerät mit wenig Betriebsstunden, mit Pech ein noch funktionierendes, dessen Laser aber schon am Ende ist und nur noch durch das Fehlerkorrektursystem des D/A-Konverters am Leben erhalten wird.
