SANSUI SR 838 DIRECT DRIVE QUARTZ LOCK TURNTABLE Listed is a vintage and scarce Sansui SR 838 Direct Drive Quartz Lock Manual Turntable. I have owned this beautiful classic turntable for many years. It has always been well cared for and never abused. This was not my main turntable and was setup in a spare room and seldom used. It is in near pristine condition and the piano black finnish is outstanding. No serious scratches and damage that is often the case. The lid is very clean as well no cracks or damage. Some very light scratches may be evident but hardly worth mentioning. This is all original and has never altered. It still retains it’s original spring feet. The rubber on the feet is somewhat deteriorated as is very common on this model of turntable. Very well built and quite heavy. The only issue is that the quartz light is burnt out which occurred about a year ago now. This does not affect how it functions. It maintains very accurate speed and locks perfectly. The sound that this puts out is fantastic. Warm sounding with plenty of base. I have used this with various moving magnet and moving coil cartridges with great results. Mounted on the beautiful S-Shaped tonearm is the original Sansui cast Headshell with a Sansui SV-43 Cartridge and stylus. This was manufactured in Japan in the late 1970’s in the golden era of hi-fidelity. This can easily be considered an audiophile turntable and I understand that this model was designed and built by Micro Seiki. A true gem in the world of audio gear. This was made for the North American market and is a 120 volt model but can also be switched to 220 volt. Comes with the original owners manual. This classic turntable would work perfectly with any vintage or modern sound system. Ideal for use with Sansui, Pioneer, Yamaha, Technics, Sony, Kenwood, JVC Victor, Akai and many other brands. Here we have for sale, one of my very own personal turntables, a very rare Sansui SR-5090. This is heavyweight, beautifully built, Direct Drive, super quiet, ultra accurate speed control and stability, and boasts all typical fully automated stop start playback functions, aswell as extra refinements such as auto record sizing, and repeat side options, pitch strobe and fine adjusters. Beautiful, fully adjustable vtf and anti-skate S shaped tonearm, with a lovely weighted headshell, to which i have just installed a great rare Cartridge and Stylus set up. Going through my stock of cartridges etc, i knew i had a Goldring G850 which i had earmarked for this turntable, however, on searching this out i came across this lovely Audio Technica, the AT VM8-Hll cartridge, and what i think is a great matching stylus, the AT-S12s. I tested the coils of the cartridge first, to discover a remarkably well balanced channel measurement of 489ohm and 491ohm, truly testament to the quality of these cartridges, so I promptly fitted these, and as you can see carefully calibrated and set up to suit the turntable and tonearm for best performance and playback, and it sounds fantastic! To further improve its stance, performance and isolation, i have fitted new solid alloy sprung isolation feet. The original feet were a combination of plastic, rubber skirt and single spring, but were looking tired and sat slightly uneven, so i tried these which i have been looking forward to testing for some months. They have made a notable difference in my opinion, adding weight and mass to the turntable overall, it has improved the bottom end and bass response, its super solid and really punches when it has too, but not lost any of the superb midrange and detail that the VM8 cartridge has created. A great upgrade in my opinion, and i shall be ordering some more. I have had it on test now for some time, and i have to say if i didnt have as many high end turntables as i do, i would like to keep this as it currently is. it performs so well, looks so darn good, and is so rare, im not likely to find another should i fancy it. However, having a Sansui SR-525 aswell, and only one Sansui system to play them on, something has to go i guess! All mechanical, and automated parts are cleaned and serviced, re-lubricated, set and calibrated. All electronics are tested for spec, and performance is carefully set up for great audio and vinyl reproduction. This plays extremely well, ultra reliable first time, every time. In simply beautiful condition, which is why it has been one of my own personal collection, i will improve it even further by polishing the lid to as new perfection! Probably the only one for sale on ebay right now, these really dont come up very often at all, very rare and sought after turntable from the old masters of high end hifi Sansui, hence the price, and the stipulation of either collection in person only, or pay me to deliver it personally, i will not entrust this to a courier, unless you organise it all yourself and accept ALL liability and responsibility for damage in transit etc. This will be fully demonstrated if collected in person from me at Arnold, Nottingham by arrangement (O7875749472) I have a range of classic british rock, prog, metal, grunge, alternative and indie records, plus some more soulful and dance tracks to play as a demo, but if you wish to bring your own familiar tracks and tunes to test it, then please feel free to do so, i think its good to play something where you know what you should expect to hear.
