For sale is a nice direct servo subwoofer by Rythmik Audio model FV12. As you can see in the photos the sub is in good condition and works great. Besides some small nicks and scratches on the cabinet, there are two large scuffs on the top that can be seen in the photos. The dimensions are 16in wide x 20in depth x 22in height(without feet). Selling two Rythmik F12SE in a gorgous high gloss piano black. If there is a faster, punchier 12 sub out there Im not aware of it. These were used in both a two-channel and HT setup. Only selling as Im building a dedicated new Home Theater and upgrading to 5 Rythmik 18, which yeah, is kinda overkill but... Rythmik L12 Direct Servo Subwoofer in Black Matte finish. I am the original owner of this subwoofer and it is in great functional condition. The subwoofer comes with the original box, quick start guide, and power cable. The sub had very light use in a townhome living room for a year and a half, then was boxed up for the last few years after I had kids and switched to a sound bar. The sub has a small ding on the back top edge (pictured), and a medium and small hole on the bottom edge of the front grill. If you are an audiophile music lover then this subwoofer is for you! The magic words are seamless integration, as in you cant tell where your speakers end and the subwoofer begins. I spent a lot of time researching and experimenting with different settings and combinations in order to attain a perfect setup with my bookshelf speakers, which I sold, and then my current tower speakers when I upgraded the bookshelfs. First. I will start by saying I hate subwoofers. I hate having to configure them and I hate that they take up floors pace in my room. Having said that, I love music and there are almost no speakers under $7,500 whose sound cannot be improved with a good quality subwoofer - or two. So subs I use. Theres two ways you can integrate subwoofers with your system, bass augmentation and proper bass management. With bass augmentation your main speakers get the full range of sound and the subwoofers only kick in where the main speakers need help, according to your preference as that is the only thing that matters. I gave up on this for one simple reason: the subwoofer is probably better at reproducing the lower sound frequencies than the main speakers. Many people wont care but an audiophile will because the goal is the best sound possible. If your main speakers are pretty good at reproducing the lower frequencies then this setup may be Ok for you, it was not for me. This F12 has crossover settings which will help integrating with those speakers fairly well. Which brings us to proper bass management. Here we use some way to split the sound frequencies such that they get sent to main speakers above a certain frequency and to the subwoofer below that frequency. Here we start with a Linkwitz-Riley filter setup. With this filter setup the frequencies to the main speakers roll off below the crossover frequency and to the subwoofer above the crossover frequency at 24 db/octave. Theoretically with this setup, the frequency response of the combined speakers will be flat below and above the crossover frequency, which in theory would be ideal but room acoustics change all that. Most home theater and many stereo receivers have built-in subwoofer settings using Linkwitz-Riley filters. What many people fail to realize is that this setup only is perfectly flat if the main speakers are relatively flat (say -3 db) at half the crossover frequency and the subwoofer -3 db at twice the crossover frequency. For example at the typical 80 Hz crossover frequency the main speakers should be relatively flat to 40 Hz and the subwoofers relatively flat at 160 Hz. If this is not the case then we may need to experiment with different settings like damping. Or we may just think the sound sounds good enough. The F12 has a LFE setting that allows it to reproduce sound relatively flat well above the 80 Hz crossover frequency. In the name of seamless integration! If one uses a home theater or stereo receiver with subwoofer integration then we must know that if we play digital audio then the sound starts digital, gets converted to analog by whatever built-in DAC, then get reconverted to digital so that the signal can be split highs to the main and lows to the subwoofer, then back to analog when sent to the amplifier portion. Many people dont know or dont care but many, such as I will care. To my ears the sound quality was degraded thus I started using analog crossovers that kept the splitting of the frequencies in the analog domain. Good analog crossovers are not cheap, some costing from $1000 to $3000 or more, although there is one that is potentially good at about $500. With the F12 we can tune in how tight the bass should be. This is important for seamless integration since not all main speakers will reproduce the lower frequencies with the same degree of tightness. I set up my F12s to maximum tightness and I felt the sound from it was tighter than my 6 bookshelf speakers. Unbelievable! Really awesome how tight the bass is with these subs. I say subs because I was not happy with just one sub. Sure we could tune it for acceptable sound and that will be fine until we start moving to different parts of the listening room. I highly recommend two subs. With two subs we get a more consistent sound image in different parts of the listening room, it is about this and not just to get more bass. Sound with well integrated subs is fantastic. The amplifier to the main speakers will have more power to the mains speakers and should produce better sound quality, the degree that that will be the case will vary with the amplifier. I go to many national and local music events. The sound with two Rythmik F12 is as close to a live performance that I have heard in my living room. Absolutely breathtaking sound! I have to say at least once I wish that the F12 had a remote control, or a phone app like my friends subwoofer from a different company. The sound from the F12 is so good that I am willing to overlook that, though. Its not like the sub needs configuring often anyway. One time that it may need tweaking is if we have it set to maximum music enjoyment and then we decide to configure it for playing movies. I did not try the F12 in a home theater system to play movies but I think there may be better options (Rythmik also sells subs with ports that may be better for playing movies, which I dont. If the F12 are that good then why am I selling it? Well, I need money for a business Im starting and I think Im going to upgrade to Rythmik subs with 15 drivers anyway at some point in the nearish future. And I have another one I can use and deal with the change in imaging when I move around. The servo technology also helps keep the sound from straying out of phase at different frequencies. Why did I write so much about this integration? Because this sub could probably make any system sound great but with careful consideration it can take it to another level of reproducing music near live music quality! Apologies for the less-than-perfect picture quality. The paint scratched off near the top front edge but it is hard to see. It could easily be touched up to make it less visible with paint or a marker even.
