A rare ROTEL RX802 Built as LEAK 3400 Stereo Receiver.Quality Hi-Fi from the late 1970s. Let me explain, In the 1970s there was the Rank Organisation who owned Rank Audio Visual. They owned Wharfedale, HJ Leak and imported Akai and Rotel. They decided that Leak would stop making HiFi in the UK so they went to Rotel to make equipment to be badged as Leak. Rank saw that Leak could be european-ised with din sockets. I dont know if Rotel badged the RX-802 as Leak or designed it for Leak and then used it as their top of the line receiver. They did the same with a Rotel / Leak integrated amplifier. What I do know is that inside they are the same. I can use a RX-802 service manual to find my way round a Leak 3400. The RX802 is as rare as hens teeth and its top of the line. There was a RX202, RX402, RX 502 and RX602 all with phono connectors, the only one with DIN connectors was the RX802 and the Leak 3400. A Leak 3400 Receiver would cost around £800 in todays money. The Leak is a quality piece of 1978 Japanese built HiFi. I used to be a HiFi Dealer in the 1970-1990s selling B&O, Pioneer, Sony, JVC, Quad, Rotel, Akai, TEAC, Revox, Thorens, Tannoy, B&W, Wharfedale etc. In 1978 I won the BeoBrain of Britain, an Industry wide contest. I was on Bang & Olufsen Denmark Technical committee. I designed a series of Loudspeakers and helped on acoustics and sound cancellation at Essex University. I think I know my know my stuff. I have been buying up HiFi on eBay for years going through all my favourites and reselling them to find my ideal systems. I set my Children up each with Leak 3400, Tannoy 609s and Rotel CD Players as I considered them the best value of the 1970s best. This is our sons receiver, he chose a Quad 405 and pre-amp I had lying around so the Leak is up for Sale. Ive been asked, so, I have a Setton AS1100, Pioneer PD1, Sansui TUDX33l and Technics RS-TR474 Mk2 driving Tannoy Devons as my system at work, my home system is all B&O with Tannoy Cheviots. I have one other Leak 3400 which Im keeping for Garden Parties with B&O Beovox 3800 and Jamo speakers. I will test this before despatch and anything you want to know ask. Powers up, lights work, knobs work, dials work, speaker connections work, all inputs work, etc. Could probably use a little dusting/cleaning/polishing, as everyone’s idea of clean varies. But, this is a nice vintage unit. In my testing everything worked as it should and seemed great. Look at the pictures to get a good idea of this machines condition and function. This will be shipped ONLY via FEDEX, or UPS, due to its weight and how fragile it is. The unit will be very carefully packaged and double boxed for safe travels. Look at pictures and ask questions!
