Der RP-855 kam Ende der 1980er auf den Markt und blieb später unter neuer Modellbezeichnung RP-955 bis weit in die 1990er als Top-Modell im Rotel Programm. Der Rotel ist ein rein manueller Plattenspieler mit elektronisch geregeltem Riemenantrieb durch einen entkoppelt montierten besonders laufruhigem DC-Motor. Schwere, verstärkte Zarge mit innenliegender Stahlplatte. Überdimensioniertes Tellerlager, 31 cm 1,5 kg Aluminium-Plattenteller mit gefrästem und polierten Laufrand. Hochdämpfende „Norsorex“ Plattentellermatte, folierte Zarge in Esche schwarz. Trittschallisolierung durch Dämpferfüße, Anschluss über geschirmtes OFC-Cinchkabel mit separatem Masseleiter. Gerader mittelschwerer Tonarm, steifes Vollmetallrohr mit Azimutjustage am Headshell und Gegengewicht mit niedrigem Schwerpunkt. Bedämpfter Tonarmlift und Antiskatingeinrichtung per Feder. Montiert ist das Audio Technica AT-110 Moving Magnet Tonabnehmer aus dem originalen Lieferumfang mit gut erhaltener sphärischer ATN-105 Nadel. Technische Daten: Gleichlaufschwankungen: +/- 0,03% (WRMS), Plattentellerdurchmesser 31 cm, Geräuschspannungsabstand DIN > 70 dB. Effektive Tonarmlänge 222 mm bei 16 mm Überhang, Abmessungen: 43,2 x 13,5 x 35,0 cm, Gewicht 7,7 kg. Der Plattenspieler ist technisch in gutem Zustand und funktioniert ohne Einschränkungen. Antrieb und Tonarm sind top, Gleichlauf einwandfrei & klanglich prima - muss sich hinter keinem Rega oder Thorens verstecken. Sauberes Gerät, optisch noch recht gut erhalten, aber mit alterstypischen Gebrauchsspuren und einigen Macken: die Folierung hat sich am Bedienpanel und links vom Tonarm gelöst und ist an diesen Stellen beschädigt. Es finden sich Kratzer am Plattenteller und die Lagerschrauben des Tonarms wurden beim Nachstellen etwas beschädigt. Die Haube weist leider stärkere Kratzer und Spuren auf, auf den Bildern schlecht zu erkennen. Kommt mit englischsprachigem Ausdruck der Anleitung. The unit powers on but the drive mechanism is not working. The rest of the unit was working perfectly until the drive unit stopped working. Working remote control included.

Ive owned this for a few years. Sounds beautiful but skips badly. It started about 9 months ago. I found an article about this model skipping due to a small plastic part (the pivot plate). I resurfaced it as the part is not available. It worked fine for a few months and started skipping again. I took that tiny plastic piece out and tried resurfacing it and it skips worse now. I believe that is the problem but its possible its more than that. No returns or refunds as this is a parts only sale. See the last picture.

There are no significant scratches other than a small scratch on the top of the unit above the cd drawer (see photos for condition). Reason for selling: I purchased this recently and have enjoyed listening to my cd collection so much that I decided to switch to a CD Transport / DAC setup. As such I no longer need this unit. If you want a vintage CD player this is one of the best sounding ones in existence, clear, warm and full! This unit is in outstanding condition and was obviously very well cared for, other than a tiny scratch on the top it is in almost like new condition, the face plate is perfect.
