Description
Offered for your consideration is a vintage Realistic part 0740 1½ inch wide dispersion cone tweeter, removed from my MC-1201 speakers, manufactured c.1985. This popular high frequency driver was also used in the Minimus 26, MC-1800, MC-1200, MC-800, MC-600, and likely other Realistic speakers from the 1980’s. Please see the large photos I’ve taken, and read the remaining description, to decide if this capable Realistic tweeter is correct for your needs. *Although the listing is written in singular to avoid any confusion, two (2) identical Realistic 1½” tweeters are available at time of this writing. Please choose if you’d like to buy one or both in the quantity field at the top of the listing. The shipping cost will be automatically calculated by eBay checkout. This Realistic tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. It has a structurally flawless paper cone and perfect voice coil dustcap. Also, the black enameled steel basket is in nice shape with no dings or oxidation, just a bit of paint wear at the mount holes. And, I left the cabinet sealing gasket attached to the back of the basket, but it wasn’t installed very neatly at the factory. Lastly, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity (red lead gasket is +) and have never been soldered on the spades. All-in-all, it’s a very well-preserved vintage driver. Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds very strong and clear with a detailed upper midrange, and crisp highs past the limits of audibility (18kHz). Plus, I tested the DC resistance at 7.6-7.7?, consistent with an 8 ohm nominal driver rating. Lastly, the mount flange measures just over 2?” square (3¼” at corners), cone diameter is 1?”, it stands about 1?” tall, and the mounting pattern is 2” adjacent / 2 13/16” diagonal, c-t-c. This is a nice find if you have a blown or damaged tweeter in your period MC-1201 or other suitable Realistic’s—your speakers will be sounding their finest again! As pictured and described, this Realistic 0740 1½” cone tweeter is offered at a competitive price.
