Radio Shack sold a number of interesting mini-amplifiers from 1969-1980. A few were exceptional and many were quite decent. The SA-102 was a later design that boasted striking silver era cosmetics in nicely sized 9x7x3.5 package. THIS OFFERING IS FOR THE REALISTIC SA-102 AMPLIFIER WITH A PAIR OF MINIMUS-8 SPEAKERS.THE AMPLIFIER WAS SERVICED 01/24. TESTED, SUSPECT CAPS REPLACED, POTS AND SWITCHES CLEANED. Solder Joints repaired as needed. Minimus 8 speakers came in two versions, one with a silver trimmed front panel (40-216), the other with a plain brown front panel (40-216A). This offering is for the 40-216, as shown in the system photograph. The SA-102 amplifier boasts a classic look and layout but unfortunately the real power output was no more than 2 wpc and the single tone control was fairly useless. Nevertheless,with some of the entry level speakers that Radio Shack and others offered, performance is quite acceptable--it is a fun amplifier to use with a number of small single driver speakers including Realistic Minimus 8 and Solo-103. The Minimus 8 is a very attractive, solidly built compact speaker with a single 4 driver. These speakers provide a surprisingly pleasant listening experience with excellent imaging and detail. They have a quality look that complements any mid-century decor. At only $ 99 for the system, you would be hard pressed to find a more attractive mini-system and a better bargain. When introduced in 1975, its clean, modern style cosmetics were a departure from the classic silver era look that was trending at the time. Its successor in the Realistic line, introduced in 1980, returned to classic cosmetics but could not match the performance of the SA-101, which boasted higher power and a more usable tone control. THIS OFFERING IS FOR THE REALISTIC SA-101 AMPLIFIER WITH A PAIR OF SOLO-103 SPEAKERS.The SOLO-103 are classic mid-60s single driver speakers with a uniquely appealing sound. Not much low end but with the detailed presentation, good balance and superior imaging that make single driver speakers so appealing. Foster Electronics made the four inch drivers ( 10F3, F-103 and FE-103) that perform remarkably well with low power amps. Made In Japan. Combining the sonic appeal with attractive retro styling, the Solo-103 remains one of the great bargains in the world of low-budget audio. They sold for $ 16 per speaker when introduced in 1967 but they have always delivered a quality listening experience, winning them a devoted following and considerable acclaim for 50+ years. The SA-101 amplifier performed well with many of the entry level speakers that Radio Shack and others offered. It is a fun amplifier to use with a number of small single driver speakers including Realistic Solo-1, Minimus 8 , Solo-103 and JVC Executive Series. It even offers reasonably good performance with small 2-ways like the Realistic Minimus 5 and Minimus 25 and 26. This unit isnt in perfect cosmetic condition, but it works as it should. As usual, all of the adjustments had noise when I first tested. I cleaned all of the pot and switches. They are all smooth and pretty quiet now. All of the inputs worked as well as all 4 speaker outputs. There are a few scratches on the top of the silver face plate. The front of the face is in pretty nice condition. The wood case has a few chips and scratches. The black metal grille on the top is slightly dented, has some paint loss, and a few spots of light rust. Due to the age and nature of older electronic devices, this is being sold as is with no guarantee. Please view all pictures carefully to judge the condition for yourself.
