Looking around for a radio they could use to demonstrate the new chip, they decided there was nothing on the market that was quite good enough to show of the chips abilities, so they made one - and it immediately won admirers, both for its excellent sound quality and stylish modern looks, so they put it into production as the Evoke-1. Imagination still exists, and still makes chips; Pure very rapidly outgrew it, becoming one of the biggest producers of digital radios in the world and introduced a number of innovations - the worlds first pocket DAB radio, the first digital radio with electronic programme guide, the first in-car digital radio adapter, the first Energy Saving Trust-approved digital radio and many more. Theyre also noted for the aesthetics of their products, and its easy to see why: taking elements of the classic Bush and Dansette radios of the 1950s and 1960s and then combining them with the clean lines and simple design, they won design awards and the radios became iconic - and its got to be said that the Evoke H3 is a very attractive device indeed. Pure have also put a lot of thought into usability and navigation, simplifying everything as much as possible and avoiding the nested menus and sub-menus that make adjusting the settings on some digital radios such a nightmare. The only control on the front is the on/off switch in keeping the almost-Bauhaus minimalist look, with everything else done through the scroll wheel and clearly labelled buttons on the top, which has been very cleverly thought out - although the radio boasts 40 presets, few users will ever use that many so there are four quick access buttons allowing the user to instantly select their favourites. The menus, alarm, volume and manual tuning are all easy too, sufficiently intuitive that after a few days use youll be able to access any feature without even thinking about it. The display is exceptionally clear and bright, making it ideal for those with reduced vision; the H3 has a built-in light sensor which automatically adjusts display brightness to match ambient light and if it needs to be dimmed even further, for example if its being used as a bedside radio, brightness can also be adjusted manually. Its also full colour, and if the necessary data is included with audio files will display album cover art when streaming music over Bluetooth - this is a feature which has been around for a few years now and is shared with many other digital radios, but it still impresses me. Its mono, but audio quality is surprisingly good and far richer than expected, a result of that tuned bass port hidden away at the back which allows a small speaker to sound like a big one, adding depth and warmth to the sound it makes. Mid-range is excellent too and treble is sharp and defined. We tested it using the audio line-in socket, playing Joni Mitchells River and Underworlds Mmm Skyscraper I Love You, and found no issues even during Jonis higher moments and Underworlds bassier moments. Even at full volume, where there was not a trace of distortion - which, while the H3 isnt the loudest radio in the world (plenty enough for normal home use, though), proves its an exceptionally well-engineered and well-made device. The H3 is designed to be portable, though by portable Pure apparently mean its a radio thats small and light enough to be easily moved from location to location rather than one you can carry around with you (and who does that in this day and age, anyway) - theres no carry handle. It cannot be powered on conventional batteries, but will run for up to 30 hours on one of Pures CharpePAK B1 rechargeable batteries - you dont get one with the H3, but you can pick up a new one online for about twenty quid. It is, however, supplied with a mains adapter, which is the way the vast majority of users will power them. As with all the mains powered electrical items we sell, this one has been professionally PAT tested and certified safe to use with the supplied UK-type adapter. Its also been bench tested and was found to be in full working order - all the features, functions, controls and so on do exactly what they should and, as already stated, sound quality is excellent. Its in excellent cosmetic condition too without scratches or marks to the woodwork or the white panels - there are, however, some very light scuffs to the clear panel covering the display, but these are far too minor to be noticed when the display is in operation. The aerial is straight and the rubber feet, designed to prevent the radio marking shelves and tabletops, are in place. Please note that the manual has been lost, but replacements can be downloaded for free. Due to the nature of this item it is not always possible for us to identify any missing parts. Its ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. The aim is to provide the highest quality care, helping them to make every moment count. Around 4,000 patients are cared for each year at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices. Alongside the care provided by the Inpatient Unit, Living Well services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can access: patient and family support; lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the Specialist Palliative Care Home Team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual patient, family member or carer and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support. It will cost £10.5 million in 2021/2022 to run services, which are provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £6.98 million, meaning that £3.52 million needs to be raised through donations, fundraising activities and trading.
