I bought this new in the mid-nineties. It has been a trusted companion through my entire adult life. It’s insanely powerful and sounds outstanding. Unfortunately, a few months ago, the right channel would occasionally turn off. I was told it was probably “a dirty speaker relay (the one you hear click when it turns on).” Since I now have less time to deal with things like this, I’m hoping a buyer will either clean the relay or fix this and enjoy it for years to come. At the time I disconnected it, both channels were working fine. But it’s an issue. I had the VU meter lamps changed to “forever” LED’s a few years ago. *UPDATE* I realized from viewing my own advert that my pictures weren’t really representative of how bad the case of this amplifier looked. I didn’t want the buyer of this amp to be disappointed by this and so I removed it and gave it a refresh of flat black primer and paint. The last 4 pictures are new and will give you a better idea of what it looks like. I’ve personally owned this amplifier for 30 years. It has been used off and on again in rotation and has always worked flawlessly. The chassis is not perfect but the front glass is clean. I’ve never had to have this repaired. Its sound is astonishing when compared to other amps and receivers from the same era. They have all come and gone and this has stayed with me. I’ve owned so so so many amps, and this wiped the floor with a good many of them. Here’s some extra generic info I pulled from someone else’s advert. A rare, high-quality vintage amplifier! Don’t be fooled by the 50wpc rating. Proton’s Dynamic Power on Demand gives it a claimed 7dB of headroom which, as Julian Hirsch said in his June 1988 review, makes it, “quite possibly the world’s most powerful “50W amplifier””. This listing is for one amplifier. Onix Dual Mono Power Amplifier A-2150 is a repackaged Proton AA-2120 amplifier. Proton VU Meter amplifiers are becoming more rare, and the AA-2120 is much more difficult to come by compared to the more common D1200 or the smaller AA-1150 at 50 watts per channel. Even that smaller amp has a reputation for being powerful, so you can imagine how much more powerful these larger amp are. Proton AA-2120 power amps were manufactured from 1993 for a few years and had a power rating of 120 watts per channel into 8 ohms. These are true dual mono amps that only share the power button, chassis and the power cord, so they are heavy for their size at 36lbs. Even more rare is the repackaged Onix A-2150. Other than the logos, they appear to be identical inside and out to the Proton AA-2120. They were manufactured in the late 1990s and had a bump to the power rating to 150 watts per channel. These amps are indeed very powerful and can easily shake your room. But they also sound very clear, especially in the midrange. As you can see in one of the photos and the video, Ive paired the Onix A-2150 with a pair of small bookshelf speakers (NHT Super Zeros). Ive been using it as my main amp for everyday use for watching Youtube or Netflix, because it just sounds so clear and concentrated. As for the condition, it works fine without any issues. Both VU meters work well. Appearance is very clean and well cared for. I replaced the feet to aftermarket metal ones as the rubber parts on original ones were disintegrating. I can include those if youd like. As you can see in the photo, I have two of these. I have in the past used them to bi-amp my floorstanding 3-way speakers. These are great looking amps to start with, but with two of them stacked, they really look beautiful. But honestly, these two combined are too powerful for me and my room. So, Im selling one. Of the two, the one Im selling is the one on top with the more green lamps (original bulbs). The other one had the bulbs burn out so I replaced the bulbs with LEDs and its much brighter. You may want to consider LED replacements in the future.

This is a rare, vintage amplifier from Proton, with an advanced Dual-Mono design. It is in extremely nice condition, and has had the green illumination replaced after the bulbs finally went out. These have been replaced with a wonderful blue for a slightly updated look. The amplifier has an amazing 7db of dynamic headroom, which allows it to put out considerably more power for musical peaks, and the oversized power supply is able to cope with lower-impedance loads and double the rated power before dipping into that amazing headroom.
