This infrared remote control repeater/extender has a wireless range of up to 100 feet as listed by the manufacturer. It features radio signal based wireless connectivity allowing you to control your infrared remote controlled devices in the whole house overcoming the infrared line of sight control limitation. The infrared control extender works utilizing 2 pyramid-shaped, 5 high, 110V outlet powered, black and modern looking devices. The Powermid receiver RE549 has a telescoping antenna (see picture with maximum extension). Personally I never needed any extension of the antenna. The Powermid transmitter (ST539) must be positioned to sense infrared signals from your existing device remote controller (incoming infrared signals are indicating by a flashing red light). The Powermid transmitter converts the incoming IR signals into radio based wireless transmissions. These transmissions are received in another location in your home by the Powermid receiver (RE549) and converted back to the original infrared signals, which are then sent to your audio, video, or other infrared controlled device(s). The RE549 receiver must be positioned so that its infrared emitter must have line of sight to your infrared controlled device(s) IR sensor. Note: A 20+ feet distance worked flawlessly in my setup! If the receiver cannot be placed in front of your infrared remote controlled device an optional infrared light emitter (RX569) with a short cable can be plugged into the back of the receiver so that an infrared light emitter can be placed directly in front of your devices infrared sensor. This is also the approach needed if your remote controlled device is in an enclosure where IR light from the receiver RE549 cannot reach it. ***Note: The optional RX569 infrared light emitter with cable is not part of this listing and I could not test whether or how well this option works with the RE549 receiver of this listing!
