Description
Up for sale is my mint condition pair of Polk Audio Monitor 7B speakers. The 7B is a sealed cabinet design equipped with the stellar Peerless tweeter, and a 6.5 inch midbass driver with a 10 inch passive radiator for deep bass. I bought these because of their reputation as a jazz/vocal music speaker, and their ability to be modernized and improved. I started with a mint, original pair of Monitor 7B speakers from the early 1980s that I purchased from the second owner. He bought them from the original owner, who bought them from Franklin Lakes Stereo. I have the original boxes and sales brochures from Franklin Lakes Stereo, and some of the original paperwork and owners manual. The cabinets are magnificent, and the original grilles are as new. All grille retaining pegs are intact. These speakers respond incredibly well to modification. I had the crossovers re-done with Sonicaps and Mills resistors. All connectors were replaced with gold plated high quality parts and silver solder was used for all of the replacement parts. High quality Zu Audio binding posts were added so that modern speaker cables can be used. This was several hundred dollars worth of work. The driver magnets were epoxied in place to prevent the dreaded magnet shift. Dynamat Extreme was applied to all of the speaker baskets and a small square was placed on the back wall of the cabinet behind the driver, per the advice on the Polk Audio forum. They sound amazing and can be driven by amps with as little as 10 watts per channel. The stands are custom made and raise the speaker to the correct height and angle of rear tilt. The finish is very nice. These speakers will hold their own against much more expensive speakers, while doing it with vintage style. I had no intention of parting with these and was intending on adding a vintage amp to my collection to use these with, however, in deference to my better half, I am thinning down my hi-fi gear and limiting it to just one room in the house, so these have to go. These are a lot of speaker for not a lot of money and it would cost you way more to try to do this yourself. PAYMENT AND PICKUP WITHIN 7 DAYS. I WILL NOT SHIP THESE. The shipping costs would be very high. NO RETURNS. Please ask any questions up front or if you need additional photos, ask and I will take them. THESE ARE FOR SALE LOCALLY AND I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THIS LISTING AT ANY TIME IN THE EVENT THEY SELL LOCALLY. Local pickup only, however, I am near Interstate 84, the NYS Thruway and State Rt. 17, so I can meet the buyer at an exit near one of these major roads within a reasonable distance to my home.
