Offered for your consideration is a vintage PIONEER #45-711B-1 1¾ inch cone tweeter removed from my HPM-40 speakers, manufactured in Japan. This outstanding high frequency driver was also used in the PIONEER HPM-60 and HPM-100 models. It has what appears to be a 1979 build code on the magnet cover and differs from the later “C”-variant of this driver only in magnet shape (thicker, but not as wide, and two ounces heavier overall) so I image they’re interchangeable. So, please have a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this superb PIONEER tweeter is correct for your needs. *Although the listing is written largely in singular to avoid any confusion, two (2) PIONEER #45-711B-1 tweeters are available at time of this writing. Please choose if you’d like to buy one or both in the quantity field at the top of the listing. The shipping cost will be automatically calculated by eBay checkout. This PIONEER tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. The lightweight paper cone, center cap, and suspension edging are all perfect and the lead-in wires are also unharmed. Plus, the cast aluminum-alloy frame is in great shape with no dings or scratches, just a tiny mark or two as pictured. And, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity, measure the industry standard .205”, and have never been soldered on the spades. Overall, this tweeter looks practically new! Most importantly, I tested it recently and the sound is wonderful—strong output with well-pronounced upper midrange and clear highs. Plus, I tested its DC resistance at 5.9?, consistent with an 8 ohm nominal driver rating of the past (6 ohm ratings were not in widespread use when it was made). Lastly, the faceplate measures 4¾” diameter, it stands about 1?” tall, and the mounting holes are spaced 2?” adjacent / 4 1/16” diagonal apart, c-t-c. So, if you have a blown or damaged 1¾” cone tweeter in your 1976-80 HPM-40, HPM-60, or HPM-100 speakers, you’ve found the right listing! Your speaker will be sounding its best again in no time! Discontinued long ago, and become scarcer (and more costly) every year, it’d also make a prudent spare to have around just in case.
