This late 70’s Pioneer SA 5500ii was purchased new by my father and was the amp in his office until my junior year in college in 1986 when he gifted me the amp for my first off-campus apartment. At the same time, he gifted me his late 60’s Dynaco A25 speakers and my growing record and tape collection was the gathering point for many a listening session for my friends and I. I have used this amp over the years in different rooms in my houses with different speakers and components and it has always been a solid performer. I have switched it in out of my current office setup over the last 20 years but I have become obsessed with a little tube amp and synergistic speaker combo for the past 5 years and feel it is time to pass this simple, solid, great sounding little workhorse along. It just seems cruel to keep it in my closet hidden from the world. (And my kids have already gotten more than their fair share of audiophile hand-me-downs by this point…) Face plate is in beautiful condition, some signs of use but really impressively clean for its age. (Zoom in to photo for condition). Case has some signs of use - stacking components etc but is also in great shape - no dents or dings. Everything works. Good phono stage! Tape loop to add an equalizer or other sound processing equipment (or a tape deck!) Pots are quite clean - volume pot has a little crackle that almost entirely goes away when you spin the knob back and forth a couple times when you start it up - never bothered me much but would probably clear right up if you wanted to de-ox it or other wise clean the pot contacts. Original orange power light - works! No functional issues whatsoever. With the right speakers this little amp sings beautifully! And it’s silverface simplicity makes it a real vintage looker. This is a very nice unit. I cleaned all the knobs and switches with de-oxit. Im not a professional technician but I am a fairly skilled hobbyist with a can of de-oxit. I played it quite a while. It tuned nicely. The sound was not scratchy. It had a very clean sound out of both speakers. Due to the nature of vintage electronics, there is no warranty available from me personally. As you can see from previous feedback my customers have been pleased with the units Ive sent out as well as the packaging. With that being said these units are 45 years or so in age. If your new to the hobby I highly recommend watching a few youtube videos on cleaning knobs, switches etc with de-oxit. This will keep you enjoying your stereo. One other thing worth knowing if youre new to this hobby is that capacitors and diodes were not really meant to last 45 plus years so no matter whom you purchase your vintage stereo with its kind of wise to have a tech on speed dial in case something like that goes out. Normally you can tell because there will be swelling or leaking on the inside. As you can see I have a picture of that too for you. Anyhow, once again.. this is a nice sounding working unit. I merely tell you these things because I do not accept reurns and some things like light bulbs, slight peeling and foreseeable future issues are fairly normal. I think youll be pleased with this unit. Please dont let me scare you off. I do ship after e-bay and b.o.a. payout so its vitally important to get your payment in immediately following auctions end. I do reserve the right to cancel listing or refund money for any reason prior to shipping.
