The CT-720 is an impressive looking and brilliant sounding top of the range direct drive, auto reverse cassette deck. This is an incredibly rare machine - the only one we have seen so far, and we sell over 200 cassette decks per year! It has three separate direct drive motors, driving the capstan, and both take-up reels (not even the legendary Nakamichi Dragon has direct drive take-up reels!), giving superb wow and flutter performance and exceptional stability. It has the superb fluorescent peak level meters that characterise Pioneer’s Blue Line series, and can handle all popular tape types, including CrO2 and metal as well as standard Type I ferric cassettes. Its beautifully engineered, with quality electrical components and unusually large and heavy capstan flywheels (to minimize wow and flutter) - it is clearly built to last! It includes Dolby B noise reduction and has front panel mounted microphone inputs as well as the usual line level L/R RCA inputs and outputs on the rear. The tape transport on the CT-720 is really responsive and well engineered. As well as the usual transport controls, it includes an automatic Music Search function (selected by the MS push button on the front panel), making track-to-track skipping easy. This CT-720 has been professionally serviced, including a full strip down, clean, test and rebuild of the mechanism as well as full signal tracing of the circuit and replacement of parts where needed (notably a re-capping of the recording bias circuit, which wasn’t up to spec). It has been inspected for electrical safety and put through a full PAT test, in line with current guidance. The electrical alignment has been checked, using a test cassette, oscilloscope, signal generator and external level meters. This process includes setting the recording levels, playback levels, meter calibration, bias and tape speed. The tape transport has also been checked and cleaned. It all works as it should and sounds great. The tape transport has been checked, cleaned and demagnetised. It is in excellent cosmetic condition for a machine of this era. The front and back panels are in nice shape with only minor signs of use, and the display is clear & bright. The lid and sides are just about perfect and free of the usual scuffs you often find on stackable Hi-Fi equipment of this era. Please take a look at the pictures.
