For sale: 1 pair Philips 9710m/01.Legendary Philips wide wideband / full-range coax driver in 8 Ohm.Beautiful engineered with the famous ticonal magnets ????Philips 9710M/01 is one of the most popular vintage fullrange loudspeakers. They were designed for studio monitoring equipment as well as for domestic hi-fi applications. It was used in many speaker systems form seventies like Philips Studio Monitor 8, Sonab V1, Sonab OA5. A close view of the cone shows a long-fiber paper. A manufacturers number 2103 is stamped on the cone. The surround is accordion type without coating. There is another version of this driver with a coated surround. The coating seems to keep its flexibility trough the passing decades and the T/S parameters of both versions are similar. There is not separate dust cap - the cone has no opening at its center, which increases the rigidity of its construction. The gasket is made of cork and sometimes is painted black. The magnet system features AlNiCo magnet and a special shape center pole piece with a copper cap. Unlike the later ferrite magnet version, the 9710M/01 has underhung magnet system with 11mm thick front pole piece and 8mm voice coil, so the linear excursion is Xmax = ± 1.5mm. The voice coil is copper ant it is wounded on a paper former. The unit was assembled with three bolts made of non-magnetic material. The chassis is attached to the magnet system by three screws on its side and can be easily removed. This model is one of the largest fullrange loudspeaker, maufactured by Philips and appeared in 1969 as the successor to the AD 5200M. These are superior to other full-range speakers of this size (such as the Philips 12100 or 12202) due to their extended high-frequency reproduction. You can definitely use them without the support of an additional tweeter. Anyone who has ever experienced the incredibly homogeneous and authentic reproduction of such drivers will be amazed. The feeling is conveyed that voices, musicians and instruments are live and physically present in the room.A close view at the cones shows a long-fiber paper. This ist the version with the specific brown color of the cones. There is another later version with black colored cone. Audiophiles wwho compered both versions, remark the superior sonic performance of the brown ones. The gasket is made of cork. It realizes high efficiency and low distortion.
