Description
This is a used pair of the very fine and very expensive (when produced) and very rare Technics SB-7000A speakers, made in 1978. They are true linear phase design speakers and their sound is incredible across all ranges and frequencies. The list price in 1978 was $800. That is $3700 in todays dollars. You would be very hard pressed to find a pair of these in better shape physically and sonically. I had the crossover boards re-capped by an expert some time back. I just had the woofers professionally re-foamed by the great Midwest Speaker Repair shop in Roseville, MN. The total cost (with substantial shipping cost both ways) was a little over $200. They done a super job. The speakers just sound absolutely fantastic now. They also replaced the dust covers over the woofer drivers. They did have some light glue smudges resulting from their work, but it is only a surface issue on the woofers. I pictured those smudges. But of course the woofers are not even seen with the covers on them. The 4 covers are in super overall shape, especially considering their 45 year age. Some specs: 7000A Type: 3 way, 3 driver loudspeaker system Frequency Response: 37Hz to 22kHz Power Handling: 100W Crossover Frequency: 700, 6000Hz Impedance: 6? Sensitivity: 90.5dB Bass: 1 x 14 inch woofer Midrange: 1 x 5 inch cone Tweeter: 1 x 32mm dome tweeter Enclosure: bass reflex Dimensions: 19 inches wide x 33 inches high x 16 inches deepWeight: 73 lbs. Note they are 6 ohm speakers so make sure your amplifier is rated to handle such. Also note the are 73 lbs each and BIG, so shipping is pretty much out of the question. I have two owners manuals, each serial-numbered to each speaker. I would be happy and proud to show you what they can do if you wish to come look and listen to them. I would not think of selling them, but I have decided to sell my house, my estate, and most of my belongings and move to SE Asia. They HAVE to be picked up locally in Booneville, Arkansas, 35 miles SE of Fort Smith. Feel free to ask me any questions. Thank you for looking! GOD SAVE AMERICA.

NOT included in the sale (BUT will be offered in thefuture). Enjoy! Greetings Phase linear Fans. 10 years ago, I was one of thelargest collectors of Phase linear in the USA if not the World. I had beencollecting Phase Linear since the 1980s. The Gentlemen in Washington State whoused to work at Phase Linear are the only ones I am aware of with largercollections. I believe they have sold most of these collections off. I recentlyrealized I still have 2 huge 800 square foot stereo vaults with storage rackingto the ceiling full of Phase linear equipment. There is some infill of Pioneerand Carver for the units that Phase Linear simply did not offer as options. Ialso have more Phase Linear fans than I will ever use. I have collected myPhase Linear units from around the world. At one-point I had gone through ~20%of the entire 1400 series II equalizers production in my search for the perfectones for my system. A full 50% of my collection is NOS and the rest is MINToriginals. You should know the manufacturing process was a rough one on theunits. NOS is no guarantee of perfection. Perfection came with going throughuntold numbers of units in service that were collected, and parts that weremint were interchanged out over time into one unit (or more). I have spoken toboth the designers and builders of the units who were charitable with theirtime. They shared the history, production and design of these beautiful units.Fully half of ALL the NOS units I procured had blemishes on them. Even when the4 pallets of NOS 3500 series II preamps were found I bought a dozen of thoseunits to get the flawless ones I have now (combined with the additionalcollected out in-service unit mint parts). My 7000 series II tape deck alonetook 20 units (including a NOS one) to get one with absolute MINT unblemishedparts. What I have left is a large collection of very nice units across theboard of Phase Linear to sell off. It is time to enjoy the decades ofcollecting and hard work. There was a time I sold Phase linear fans but I was notsatisfied by the way they were turning out. So, I stopped. You might be able totell I am a little bit obsessive and perfectionistic (to your benefit). I hadcollected over time several blemished original fans, spare parts as well as acollection out of an old stereo shop. Recently I thought it was time to getback to doing things right and offer them once again. The supply of these arelimited. The condition of the fans is as good as you could ever possibly get. These were done right and are blemish free. If there are any marks, again theyare from the production process. Missing panels were replaced with laser cutmates. All finishes were done again, but this time in power coated finishing. This finish is a very close match to the original finishes but far moredurable. I do have a few extra original unrestored 700 fan side panels ifsomeone is interested? They are simply left over from this process. I also havesome extra Phase Linear decals available. PhaseLinear Fan history and motor placement A little history aboutthe fans. They were very very rare. I know of only about a dozen that have everpopped up for sale outside of the ones I offer. I bought most of these back inthe day. The 1970s Boxer brand fan was extremely quiet and came infrom 22-24db range on testing. When bringing these back to the market I foundthe quietists replacement motors on the planet. They are about 24db onprofessional mic testing. The original motors were in this range as well.I find them quiet. If you have never had one on an amp you might notice a lowlevel of operation but most do not. So far feedback has always been good. However, the level of noticeable air movement can vary. The way to get themsuper quiet is to use a small step-down transformer (or rheostat) to dial inthe rotational speed of the motor units (SEE NARRATIVE AND PHOTO ABOVE). Thator going with a 12-volt motor which would fit in the shroud but still need atransformer. I have never had to do it but want to be clear on the units asstarted in the ads. The700 fans fit ALL 700 series B amp, I & II amps. Theseare narrower than the 400 series fan due to the 400-fin separation beingwider. The fan shroud assemblies for the 700 and 400 series simply slide snuglyover the cooling fins at the back and 2 alligator clips then hold the shroud tothe fins at the bottom. No modifications or work is required at all. The powerchord then plugs into the back of the amp or the wall outlet if close by. Thefans come with the standard 1-foot length chords. Longer chords are availableif needed. Just request one at no extra cost. The D or Dual 500 fans require 2special high tolerance mounting brackets. If you are purchasing a 500 seriesfan there is an additional $15.00 cost for these brackets. These cooling fansreally are a must if you use your amplifiers for any length of time at all. Theheat buildup will trigger the amp to cut out despite the passive efforts of thecooling fins at the back of the units. These Fans have been promoted inthe past as necessary to avoid burning out the main board on the amps andearned the Phase Linear amps the nickname of Flame Engineering. This ismore myth than fact. However, many of the 700 amps I have run did kick offafter about 45 minutes due to heat buildup. It is/was a common problem. I placed labels on bothsides of the fan motor in case you wanted to unscrew and reverse the directionof the motor. Some prefer the pull thru of heat while others like the pushthru. I think the resistance going against the amp may work it harder thanneeded and cools less well but it will task either. As mentioned in the Ad, therheostat shown in the photos is available to adjust the fan as variable speed. That can increase or decrease the rate of cooling or fan sound level to yourspecific needs. It is available from another vendor for $13 shipped. I cantcompete with that price. All fans are testedbefore going out. There is a one-year warranty. THERE ARE NORETURNS EXCEPT FOR UNDER WARRANTY. So, buy well. Buyers remorse has littlesympathy here especially your children biding when you are notaround. THE BUYER HAS THE CHOICEFOR MORE FANS AT A REDUCED PRICE ON LARGER NUMBER OF FANS PURCHASED. I will be offering thePhase Linear 400 series II fans, as well as all models in the 220240-volt units if you are abroad, or running your own power on 220-240 volts. Postage abroad is $60 and buyer takes the risk of shipping time and loss. See my other eBay ads for those units. Regarding Overseasshipping. YOU MUST CONTACT ME PRIOR TO PURCHASE. This is to be sure youunderstand the conditions of the sale. The overseas and shipping/buying policyis that I can provide tracking to our borders, but once it leaves our shoresand arrives at your customs, I am no longer able to track the package nor areresponsible for any loss, time of arrival or damage. THE COST OF OVERSEASSHIPPING IS $70. Unless you want faster expensive shipping with tracking andinsurance. It will run considerably more. I will call it a commercialsample to keep it moving thru your customs. I will list theseonly as long as they are bringing their value here at auction on eBay. My timeis too limited to spend on losing propositions on fine equipment. I do havemany other things to do if no one wants these. If there is adequate interest, Iwill start listing the majority of my extra Phase Linear, Pioneer, and otherassorted vintage equipment to self-off as time allows for testing and cleaning.Thank you for your forbearance and time. SHOWS THE AFINITY AC VARIABLE SPEED CONTROLLER AVAILABLE FROM OTHER VENDORS ON EBAY.Greetings Phase linear Fans. 10 years ago, I was one of the largest collectors of Phase linear in the USA if not the World. I had been collecting Phase Linear since the 1980’s. The Gentlemen in Washington State who used to work at Phase Linear are the only ones I am aware of with larger collections. I believe they have sold most of these collections off. I recently realized I still have 2 huge 800 square foot stereo vaults with storage racking to the ceiling full of Phase linear equipment. There is some infill of Pioneer and Carver for the units that Phase Linear simply did not offer as options. I also have more Phase Linear fans than I will ever use. I have collected my Phase Linear units from around the world. At one-point I had gone through ~20% of the entire 1400 series II equalizers production in my search for the perfect ones for my system. A full 50% of my collection is NOS and the rest is MINT originals. You should know the manufacturing process was a rough one on the units. NOS is no guarantee of perfection. Perfection came with going through untold numbers of units in service that were collected, and parts that were made mint over time were interchanged out into one unit (or more). I have spoken to both the designers and builders of the units who were charitable with their time. They shared the history, production and design of these beautiful units. Fully half of ALL the NOS units I procured had blemishes on them. Even when the 4 pallets of NOS 3500 series II pre-amps were found I bought a dozen of those units to get the flawless ones I have now (combined with the additional collected out in-service unit mint parts). My 7000 series II tape deck alone took 20 units (including a NOS one) to get one with absolute MINT unblemished parts. What I have left is a large collection of very nice units across the board of Phase Linear to sell off. It is time to enjoy the decades of collecting and hard work. There was a time I sold Phase linear fans but I was not satisfied by the way they were turning out. So, I stopped. You might be able to tell I am a little bit obsessive and perfectionist (to your benefit). I had collected over time several blemished original fans, spare parts as well as a collection out of an old stereo shop. Recently I thought it was time to get back to doing things right and offer them once again. The supply of these are limited. The condition of the fans is as good as you could ever possibly get. These were done right and are blemish free. If there are any marks, again they are from the production process. Missing panels were replaced with laser cut mates. All finishes were done again, but this time in power coated finishing. This finish is a very close match to the original finishes but far more durable. I do have a few extra original unrestored 700 fan side panels if someone is interested? They are simply left over from this process. I also have some extra Phase Linear decals available. The 700-amp series fan is a VERY, VERY hard to find item. The 700 fans fit ALL 700 series B amp, I & II amps. These are narrower than the 400 series fan due to the 400-fin separation being wider. The fan shroud assemblies for the 700 and 400 series simply slide snugly over the cooling fins at the back and 2 alligator clips then hold the shroud to the fins at the bottom. No modifications or work is required at all. These cooling fans really are a must if you use your amplifiers for any length of time at all. The heat buildup will trigger the amp to cut out despite the passive efforts of the cooling fins at the back of the units. These Fans have been promoted in the past as necessary to avoid burning out the main board on the amps and earned the Phase Linear amps the nickname of “Flame Engineering”. This is more myth than fact. However, many of the 700 amps I have run did kick off after about 45 minutes due to heat buildup. It is/was a common problem. THERE ARE NO RETURNS. So, buy well. Buyer’s remorse has little sympathy here especially your children bidding when you are not around. THE WINNING BIDDER HAS CHOICE FOR MORE FAN SHROUDS AT A REDUCED PRICE IF THEY SO CHOOSE. I will be offering the Phase Linear 400 series II fan shrouds and full units as well. As well as all models in the 220-240 volt units if you are abroad, or running your own power on 220-240 volts. See my other eBay ads for those units. I will list these only as long as they are bringing their value here at auction on eBay. My time is to limited to spend on losing propositions on fine equipment. I do have many other things to do if no one wants these. If there is adequate interest I will start listing the majority of my extra Phase Linear, Pioneer, and other assorted vintage equipment to self-off as time allows for testing and cleaning. Thank you for your forbearance and time. Regarding Overseas shipping. YOU MUST CONTACT ME PRIOR TO PURCHASE. This is to be sure you understand the conditions of the sale. The overseas and shipping/buying policy is that I can provide tracking to our borders, but once it leaves our shores and arrives at your customs, I am no longer able to track the package nor are responsible for any loss, time of arrival or damage. THE COST OF OVERSEAS SHIPPING IS $70. Unless you want faster expensive shipping with tracking and insurance. It will run considerably more. I will call it a commercial sample to keep it moving thru your customs. Ask all questions prior to bidding. All sales are final! Please see our other auctions. I do have a few extra original unrestored 700 fan side panels if someone is interested? They are simply left over from this process. I also have some extra Phase Linear decals available. Phase Linear Fan history and motor placementA little history about the fans. They were very very rare. I know of only about a dozen that have ever popped up for sale outside of the ones I offer. I bought most of these back in the day. The 1970s Boxer brand fan was extremely quiet and came in from 22-24db range on testing. When bringing these back to the market I found the quietists replacement motors on the planet. They are about 24db on professional mic testing. The original motors were in this range as well. I find them quiet. If you have never had one on an amp you might notice a low level of operation but most do not. So far feedback has always been good. However, the level of noticeable air movement can vary. The way to get them super quiet is to use a small step-down transformer (or rheostat) to dial in the rotational speed of the motor units (SEE NARRATIVE AND PHOTO ABOVE). That or going with a 12-volt motor which would fit in the shroud but still need a transformer. I have never had to do it but want to be clear on the units as started in the ads. The power chord then plugs into the back of the amp or the wall outlet if close by. The fans come with the standard 1-foot length chords. Longer chords are available if needed. Just request one at no extra cost. The D or Dual 500 fans require 2 special high tolerance mounting brackets. If you are purchasing a 500 series fan there is an additional $15.00 cost for these brackets. It is/was a common problem.I placed labels on both sides of the fan motor in case you wanted to unscrew and reverse the direction of the motor. Some prefer the pull thru of heat while others like the push thru. I think the resistance going against the amp may work it harder than needed and cools less well but it will task either. As mentioned in the Ad, the rheostat shown in the photos is available to adjust the fan as variable speed. That can increase or decrease the rate of cooling or fan sound level to your specific needs. It is available from another vendor for $13 shipped. I can’t compete with that price. All fans are tested before going out. There is a one-year warranty. THERE ARE NO RETURNS EXCEPT FOR UNDER WARRANTY. So, buy well. Buyer’s remorse has little sympathy here especially your children biding when you are not around.THE BUYER HAS THE CHOICE FOR MORE FANS AT A REDUCED PRICE ON LARGER NUMBER OF FANS PURCHASED.I will be offering the Phase Linear 400 series II fans, as well as all models in the 220–240-volt units if you are abroad, or running your own power on 220-240 volts. See my other eBay ads for those units.Regarding Overseas shipping. YOU MUST CONTACT ME PRIOR TO PURCHASE. This is to be sure you understand the conditions of the sale.
