The cartridge itself is identical to the one that has been fitted into the Ortofon head shell and (still within the headshell), connected to a tiny moving-coil step up transformer (at the back off the head shell). Same elliptical diamond and all the rest of this fabulous design. Except for: a) you can fit it into any tonearm and, b) the actual mass (weight) of the cartridge is drastically lower without the head shell and transformer (only 12 grams or so). This, in turn, enables the cartridge to track at only 1.9-2.0 grams tracking force (instead of 3-3.5 grams which was necessary for the standard, ultra-heavy SPU Gold in the detachable head shell).
