This is a very special, one off, custom sample of the legendary ORTOFON SPU GOLD moving-coil phono cartridge. The cartridge itself is identical to the one that has been fitted into the Ortofon head shell and (still within the headshell), connected to a tiny moving-coil step up transformer (at the back off the head shell). Same elliptical diamond and all the rest of this fabulous design. Except for: a) you can fit it into any tonearm and, b) the actual mass (weight) of the cartridge is drastically lower without the head shell and transformer (only 12 grams or so). This, in turn, enables the cartridge to track at only 1.9-2.0 grams tracking force (instead of 3-3.5 grams which was necessary for the standard, ultra-heavy SPU Gold in the detachable head shell). This cartridge has been made for me during my visit to the Copenhagen-Valby factory in the late 80s, still is brand new and unplayed and has been kept all these years at a constant room temperature and humidity, so the generator and suspension component remained in the same condition as when the cartridge has been made.
