For sale is my Ortofon 2M Mono SE MM phono cartridge. I bought this new in August 2014 direct from Ortofon. Initially I used it on a second turntable – a VPI HW-19 MK IV until that was sold. Since May 2015, this cartridge has been mounted on the second VPI 12.7 tone arm and more recently on a 12” 3D arm on my Classic 4. It has been lightly used in the time that I have owned it. The records were always thoroughly cleaned prior to playing (VPI vacuum cleaned and Audio Desk Ultrasonic cleaner). I mostly played recent mono reissues but have played a few clean originals from the 1950s & 60s. I would guess that I have probably played only about 100-150 records with it in the time that I have owned it since I mostly prefer to listen in stereo with my Benz Micro LPS, Lyra Parnassus, or Kleos. I used the cartridge with the MM input on my Herron VTPH-2A phono preamp. The cartridge is a special version of the 2M Mono that was created for the release of The Beatles Mono vinyl box set. Ortofon has a video and more information about the cartridge on their website. “The SE version adds a Nude Shibata stylus profile, an updated generator with silver plated coils and a white Lexan body which is said to be very rigid and eliminate unwanted resonances.” (from a December 2014 Enjoy the Music.com review). The sound of the cartridge is clean and smooth, and it brings out details in the mono recordings that I never noticed when playing them with a stereo cartridge. Since I have traded in my Classic 4 for an SME, I no longer want to bother with switching the cartridge for the few times that I want to play a mono record so I have decided to sell this cartridge. The cartridge has been used in a smoke-free, pet-free environment. The cartridge will be packed in the original box which will be placed in an outer shipping carton with lots of cushioning material.
