One of my favorites a Dual 510 belt-drive turntable. No frills, just solid performance. With an Ortofon FF15E Mk II cartridge which is an improvement from the original to the turntable, likely also an Ortofon. Cover is very clean with minor scuffs, theres a little nick in the wood grain on the bottom front that could be glued back into place or touched up. New belt, tested by listening to an LP on a stereo. I have sold +100 turntables on eBay since 1998, I have a lot of experience packing these so they will survive shipping. I was therefore expecting an inferior performance from the F15E, but I’ve since learned that cartridges are not always so straight-forward.Treble: High-frequency delivery is crisp and clear, with a good level of detail, and gives air to the sound. The treble makes an important contribution to the precise sound of this cartridge but isn’t too forward and is unlikely to prove tiring. Midrange: The mid-band has nice body, and is again clear and open with a decent level of detail. It gives vocals good presence and texture, and sibilance is handled reasonably well.Bass: The bass is forward, punchy and assertive. Deep bass is a strength of this cartridge and lends impressive weight to the sound. The bass is generally of extraordinary quality, especially at the price – taut, agile and reasonably textured. It allows the cartridge to navigate fast-moving rhythms with ease but without bass weight suffering.The above elements come together to produce a very pleasing whole, the overall character being a clean, tight sound with a relatively neutral balance. Some may perceive the balance as slightly warm, due to the prominence of the bass. The deep bass certainly gives weight to the sound but there is a solid feel across the entire frequency spectrum, right through to the upper-treble. Detail is also nicely portrayed across all the bands, although this is not a highly detailed, analytical cartridge. The excellent dynamics add significantly to the entertainment value of this cartridge, but are not over-bearing. While the F15E works well with all types of music, I find that its tight, punchy, agile presentation is well-suited to fast, 1980s electronic Pop. The main criticism that can be levelled at this cartridge is that there is occasionally a hint of hardness and lack of subtlety on some material. It also doesn’t have the sweet and charming personality that some cartridges have, but this is a minor quibble. It seems to me that the F15E was an exceptional budget/mid-priced cartridge which most listeners would find very satisfying and entertaining.

Fully serviced vintage Dual cs505 turntable with Ortofon ff15 cartridge. Overall this turntable is in very good condition for its age, with just a couple of cracks on the dust cover around the hinges, not really noticeable when in situ and they dont affect its operation. Some light scratches on the dust cover commensurate with its age but again not really noticeable in normal use. The turntable comes fitted with an Ortofon FF15 type 2 cartridge and a good 3rd party stylus that is an excellent match for the low mass arm. The motor and mechanical parts have been fully serviced, belts checked or replaced, and new capacitors fitted to the motor control board so it runs as silently now as it did when new. Overall, a great little turntable, excellent as a first deck for anyone getting into vinyl, just as it was back in the day. I am happy to post the item and will pack it carefully to protect it as much as possible, however I would be even happier if someone fancied a trip to mid wales to collect it in person. Dual cs505 turntable with Ortofon ff15 cartridge. Overall this turntable is in very good condition for its age, with just the obligatory cracks on the back of the dust cover over the hinges (dont affect operation of the lid) and some small scratches on the top of the cover. The motor has been serviced and belts have all been checked/replaced, everything works just as it did when it was new. The turntable is fitted with an Ortofon FF15 type 2 (or F15, same cartridge body) which has an after market (not Ortofon) stylus. I dont know too much about the stylus as it was fitted new when I acquired the turntable, but it seems to be a quality product from one of the better suppliers (maybe Mantra audio?) and it hasnt had much use with me so should still be in good condition. It certainly sounds fine. I have always been impressed by the sound from these turntables, and set up correctly with a good cartridge they are an excellent way to start enjoying vinyl. I am happy to send this in the post but it is a delicate item, I will pack it as carefully as I can and I will remove the arm counterweight and pack it separately to prevent damage. I have seen too many turntables damaged by counterweights that become detached while being bounced around in the back of delivery vans. This means the arm will need to be re-balanced and set up by the new user, not difficult but I will enclose the instructions. Of course it would be even easier if the buyer collected the turntable and I am more than happy for them to do this, if they didnt mind a visit into mid wales. Thanks for looking.
