Optonica RP-3838 Computer Cassette Deck. Time for a cassette deck cull. I’ve been collecting HiFi for as many years as I can remember and this one just isn’t getting the use it should so needs to go to someone who is going to make use of this fine cassette deck. These are a pretty rare machine and for those that don’t know Optonica was Sharp’s name for their better HiFi kit much like Technics is National Panasonic’s. The common version of this deck is the Sharp RT-3151. This one is in exceptionally nice condition for being 45 years old with hardly a visible blemish and has had the benefit of having all its drive tyres, belts and centre gear replaced so that it is in perfect working order, which is not normally the case for these wonderful cassette decks.Both versions of this deck are usually pretty much knackered and require a fair bit of work with hard to obtain part but this one has had all those parts that usually failed replaced. Please see the attached photos as these form part of the description. I often start my auctions at £1 and never set a reserve, my philosophy being that an items current value has no bearing on the price I paid for it when purchased, I have had the enjoyment of using and or tinkering with it and therefore feel whatever the items end bid price at the end of the auction is it’s fair market value. So if that is less than I paid for it then so be it. I will always try to answer any other questions so please feel free to ask away but please ask all your questions before the end of the auction and satisfy yourself that what you have bid is what you are happy to pay for the item and as this is an auction caveat emptor does apply. I will always try where possible to recycle packaging from items I have bought and will only charge the actual cost of postage no packing or “it didn’t reach the price I thought so I will put a bit on the postage” fees. I do much prefer collection by the buyer so they can then satisfy themselves with the item but of course if shipping will pack accordingly. For fragile items such as turntables collection is my ideal way of the buyer getting hold of their new purchase, this cuts out the risk of the item however well packed getting kicked around the back of a container lorry by a less than careful courier and arriving in a rather dishevelled condition. On that note I can not always find suitable packaging at auction end so it can take a day or two for me to get an item packed and shipped as I am an enthusiast/magpie/collector and not a dealer so the items I sell are things that I have either upgraded from, bought as a project and probably not finished or things I just could not resist or leave alone but never really used and are therefore second hand and used. All my items are in Kent, England and I am happy to ship to anywhere in the world at the buyers cost via the ebay global shipping programme. I prefer payment via ebays payment system, I am going to spend it on more shiny things anyway and it just makes life easier.
