Once theOPPO HA-1 Headphone amplifier and Control unit was issued, it became theirpremium and most costly product. Theheadphone amplifier is a superb Class A design, whilethe DAC was their best iteration. TheHA-1’s input modalities include USB, Coax, Opti,AES/EBU, Analog, Bluetooth, Mobile, RCA and XLR, all of which are on the remote,as well. The elegant HA-1 remotecontrols all the functions plus the screen display, volume, mute and more. Theremote’s battery is extremely long lasting and was recently replaced. The analog stereo Inputs and Outputs arebalanced and unbalanced. Dimensions: 3¾”H x 10“W x 15”D, weight a solid 13 lbs. Soon after it arrived, I found that the OPPO HA-1 had a minorglitch in its firmware. When using theremote to increase the volume, without warning the volume could continue to steadilyrise unabated, a rare event. I sent theunit back to OPPO but they neither fully resolved it nor did they explain it tome. Should it occur the simple fix is topress MUTE on the remote then get control of the volume potentiometer, which iseasily done with a couple of button pushes. The HA-1 will perform normally afterward. Reducing the volume with the remote alwaysproceeds normally. Keep in mind thisevent rarely happens and it has never stopped me from enjoying the HA-1. However, you ought to be aware of it. If you play records, a separate cartridge preamplifier is necessary. The HA-1is not a preamplifier audio component though it looks like one, an error madeby some. Please assure adequate ventilationfor the heat generated by the Class A amplifier. I found the Bluetooth function to be really neat, allowingme to play anything streamed on the iPhone through the audio system while lying on thecouch, reading. To my ear the OPPO HA-1sounds a lot like it did when I first got it. The case is in like new condition and the screen looks great. The display is sharp and can be varied inseveral ways, controlled at the unit with the small knob or with the remote. The larger knob is the volume control. I could not get a decent photo of the screen displayingthe input selections, a limitation of my older iPhone’s camera. OPPO put considerableenergy and resources into this component and IMHO, OPPO fell short in itsmarketing. The unit’s splendid inputmodalities and control functions, plus the DAC, played a pivotal role in my stereo. However, I have been a speaker guy likeforever so the lovely headphone amplifier took third place, the very featureOPPO touted most.
