The same principles have been applied in the design of the crossover. The Dali Oberons are the first entry-level loudspeaker to include Dali’s patented SMC technology, which reduces any non-linear magnetic distortion. The Oberon range has a ‘speaker for every use’ including for us with stand-mounts, an on-wall, two floor-standing and a centre channel. Every model in the range is perfect for stereo use and is able to fill everything from small apartments to large living rooms with a high-quality sound. The woofer in the Oberon 1s is a 5.25 low-loss type that has been optimised with a new wood fibre structured cone. The woofer is crafted from a mix of fine grain paper pulp that is reinforced with wood fibres, giving a stiff, lightweight construction. Also the low-loss surround and spider suspension, ensures the cone reproduces the minute details in the audio signal. The rubber surround has been chosen for its soft and very flexible properties. The surround allows the membrane free movement with a very low dampening effect, leaving the magnet motor to control the membrane movement. The iron pole piece of the woofer magnet is topped with a patented SMC disk - minimising the negative effects of the iron. Using the SMC disk greatly reduces any potential mechanical distortion, which lowers third order distortion. The tweeter is 29mm and ultra-light soft dome type manufactured by Dali and developed specifically for the Oberon range. The large membrane size allows the tweeter to generate higher sound pressures with less excursion, keeping the voice coil movement to a precise minimum. The oversized membrane is crafted from an ultra-light fabric that is optimised for a larger bandwidth in the lower frequency region. This speaker is very easy to integrate into your living space. The driver materials and geometry have been selected to give a wide dispersion pattern in the listening room. The crossover has been designed as sch that you will experience a well-integrated sound, even when listening off-axis. Off-axis listening is important as listeners are rarely seated directly in front of the speakers. The cabinet of the Oberon 1 is created from a high-density CNC machined MDF board, that is covered in a carefully selected high-grade vinyl. The cabinet is very rigid due to the solid bracings across the inside for additional reinforcement. The bracing improves the stiffness and virtually eliminates internal resonances. The timing is also optimised by fitting the speakers with acoustic damping material internally. The audible result of the design choices is a more precise bass response and an increase in ‘attack’ in the midrange.
